Title: dc08 cyclone disassembly
Post by: caro213 on January 23, 2015, 02:31:46 pm
How do I pull out the funnel type part from the cyclone ?

Hello
I want to clean my DC08 cyclone and I have found good videos showing how to do it.
The problem is that I don't manage to pull out the cone (funnel type part) at the very beginning of the disassembly process.
I 've hurted myself trying to do it, my husband helped me, no way.  :(
I only managed to put a screwdriver between the cone and the rest of the cyclone but I couldn't get the cone move at all.
I think that it is because I used to hit the cone on the floor to make the dust go away.
Have you got any idea to manage the task ?
I have also read on the web that without any disassembling you can just rince the whole cyclone with water and get it completely wet before reusing it. But I'm not sure it's a good idea. What do you think ?
Many thanks for your help.
Carole

You can wash the cyclone, but it must be 100% dry before re-use, otherwise water will go through the motor. Jet washing is my usual method.

Sure, dry is better than wet !!  :king:
So you think that it is not worth disassembling the cyclone ?
How do you get it dry ? Just leave it near a radiator ? How can you check it's perfectly dry ?
Thank you for your answer

Bienvenue sur le site!  :tiphat:

Does the cyclone appear visibly blocked? The decision to wash it depends very much on what it has been used for.

You won't get it clean without fully stripping it down I'm afraid

https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,1100.0.html

Once it's washed and cleaned, a sharp shake should knock the majority of the water off, then place all the parts in the airing cupboard, or infront of a radiator for a day or so.

I need to refurb a DC08 in the next few days, if you still have no luck I'll take better pictures than the linked for you!

Bonjour !
Merci MVacs for your words in french. I keep on trying in English...
My cyclone is not blocked at all but I suppose that a good cleaning would be good for my old DC08. I've always had a 'normal use' of it.
I understand beko1987 disassembling is the best way but I can't follow your tutorial. As I said in my first post, I can't get rid of the funnel part.
Any idea ?

I think it just snapped out. You tried carefully prising it out with a thin flat blade screwdriver?

I managed to put a screwdriver between the cone and the rest of the cyclone but I couldn't get the cone move at all. It was like stuck. I did'nt try to lever up much because it seemed like something would be broken : the cone or the screwdriver...

Yes I know this good video and I feel demoralised each time when I see how easy it is for him to get the cone out (1'38'').https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/Smileys/Custom/cry.gif
Now I have to decide between leaving my cyclone as it is with the dust or put it under water without disassembling it. What do you think ? Thank you

You could wash it with the cone on, just leave it for a good few days in a warm place to be very sure its properly dry, shake it hard to check and watch/feel for any water splattering out.

You also run the risk of clumps of dirt going damp internally, and clogging things up even further...

I have washed many without dismantling them, as long as you use a hose with descent water pressure and a detergent, rinse well, shake as much water out as possible then leave to dry in a warm place for 2 days you will be fine.

Going by the video, grab the cone and pull! It will come out. Maybe try and twist/bend. Only once its out can you get to the screw within to split the unit down and get to the internals.

You don't all agree about the risk... Washing or not washing, that's the question !
I 've given up trying to pull the cone (and my husband too), completely stuck !

Try the following:

Get your husband to hold the cyclone and you can push the cone down with your foot.

Or go outside and find a curb or something like a brick. Then smack the cone against the brick, it should split open.

If not, then lie the cyclone and dig your hand in, hold/wrestle the shroud down (the thing which looks like a beehive thing with loads of holes) and pull the cone up. One of these must work.

Make a video of you doing it though please  :))

Sorry only joking.

The only risk you have is washing a lump of hair or similar into one of the holes, blocking it.

Does your husband have an airline or similar? A good blast through (outside) may do it, try and blast through each hole.

Or high pressure water as mentioned. There's no metal parts inside, as long as you shake the assembly until no more water comes out then leave to dey in a warm place it will soon evaporate

He is on here, but doesn't appear much. He knows his stuff.

Hello everybody ! I've done it !!  :icon_nod:
I've just done it by myself without any help.
I've been inspired by your first option Parwaz : I've blocked the cyclone lying on the floor against my left foot and pushed the cone down with the other foot. That's it !
So a quite conventionnal way... sorry for not providing a video gag experimenting the brick way...
Let's try to get the screws out now, that should be easier
Many thanks, you saved me
Goodbye from Paris

Great tutorial video, just done one following its instructions. The cone came off easily hardest part was taking off the handle. I find it easier if I know what's coming off ... so here's pictures of handle [attachimg=1]
