Title: DC17 Beater Brush stops working intermittently on carper
Post by: jfrazie5 on April 27, 2015, 11:32:34 pm
I have a DC17 Animal. My mother purchased it about 8 years ago and began having trouble with the beater bar so she handed it off to me.  The suction on the machine works great. However, when I turn the beater brush on to vacuum the carpet in my house the brush works for about 30 seconds and then cuts off. I can restart the brush by depressing the beater brush "on/off" button and it works for another 30 seconds or so and quits again.  I have removed the beater brush cover and cleaned any debris, hair, strings, etc from the brush and belt drive spindle.  The teeth on the brush, spindle, and belt are all in good condition but still have the same problem. With the handle reclined and the brush not in contact with the floor the beater brush spins with no problems but as soon as I place the brush in contact with carpet the brush motor kicks off and I'm back to square one. Any suggestions short of sending it to Dyson's repair facility would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

It sounds like the brush-bar motor is on its way out.
