Title: What kinds of a refurbisher/repairer are you?
Post by: Elgin on March 13, 2017, 09:27:12 pm
As the title dictates - What kind of Dyson refurbisher are you?
Are you the one who slaps on any part that fits - e.g say you have a DC04 Absolute and you just wham a DC07 Animal head on because thats what you had in your hand
Are you the one who matches colour to colour and doesn't bother about wether it originally came off that machine as long as it is the right colour. E.g. sticking a clutched yellow dc07 head on a yellow/grey dc04
Are you the one who mathces every machine to the part they originally came with and ONLY put a different part on it if that part was broken?

Who are you.?

\ I am the one who matches colour to colour - I'm not bothered about matching each individual part to one machine since that takes more time and if its the same part but from a different machine - does it really matter? Not really

I'm picky, anal, OCD etc

Lets just say if I have a DC33 Multi floor with a broken wand, and I want a used wand, I'd be happier knowing it's off a DC33 Multi floor... even though all DC33 wands are clones

I don't want to refurb two gunmetal grey DC14s together at once, I might put the gunmetal grey valve pipe of a DC14 origin onto a gunmetal grey  DC14 all floors :O

Bins have to be shiny, the whole vacuum should be shiny, no dust on it, all parts have to look good

Basically as new as possible

I'm Similar  -I hate seeing the dust on a freshly refurbed machine, but I don't bother matching part to machine. just stick anything on as long as its the correct colour

Also did you know that a DC07 handle fits a DC14 - Just the hose doesn't lock on, but it will still work if you attach the hose to the top of the wand as you do on dc07's

Yep, I just wish a DC14 wand would fit onto a DC07, but then again I'd hate it as it's not original

Yes tried that, works until it comes to lock in - Its a big NO for the 14 on a 07

I've just started refurbing them after my wife's DC07 all floors broke and I did hers.
I enjoy stripping them down, making a good one out of 2 or 3 old ones.
Just never plucked up enough courage to sell one (in case it goes wrong!!)
What do you do when your garage is full of Dysons????

In my case, other junk lol.

Primarily a repairer, however i do stray into the parts adoption dilemma. This all depends on the customer, if i have a second hand part from a scrapped vac i tell them that - if colour doesn't match then it will cost more to buy in. Nobody in the last 6 years has said colour matters. I certainly wouldn't fit a clutched head to a non clutched machine etc unless someone requested i did so.

That is actually something we do quite often.

Ive noticed you seem to do quite a few clutch conversions, what about non-clutch conversions?
