Title: Singer Compact Model 151 - I need some general info please!
Post by: RichDix on September 15, 2020, 07:07:51 pm
Hi.  I'm hoping you experts can help me!  My Son is 8 and has been collecting vacuums since he was 3.  We recently purchased a Singer Compact Model 151.  We love getting these old vacs and finding out about them, maybe taking them apart and reassembling them.  The trouble with this one is, we can find absolutely zero info about it.  All we know is what's on the label, which is Singer Model 151, Made in Italy.  Can anyone shed any light at all on this lovely little thing?  Pics coming soon when compressed, Son desperate to get the quest underway! Thanks in advance.

I don't recall seeing a Singer vacuum. If I see a photo it may be something else re-branded.

No, i could not find anything either.
The reason i looked was because i recently looked at a sale item on ebay - of a pillar drill, it was actually an old stanley pillar drill but branded singer.

Were they not primarily famous for sewing machines, but during the war were diverted into some form of militaria manufacturing ? / or bicycles ?
Seen the old factory plot on the clydebank a few years ago when i was a print service engineer.
Maybe a pic of the machine will reveal it's real identity...

Curious where you are from, or where this Singer vacuum is from?  I take it that it isn't a model ever sold in the US.  Singer sold their US vacuum and power tool manufacturing to Ryobi in the late 1980s.  There hasn't been a new Singer vacuum sold in the US since maybe the early 1990s when Singer was selling a Samsung made canister and an upright made for them by Sharp.
