Title: Troublesome DC25 Cleanerhead
Post by: macman on November 26, 2018, 10:02:55 am
I repaired a DC25 a couple of months ago where the brushroll would cut out intermittently (I hate these intermittent faults). I checked power to the cleanerhead-OK. I changed the reset switch, it worked OK. Yoke loom-visually OK. Motor had continuity, so no problem there, so I cleaned it and rebuilt the cleanerhead. A month later, the customer tells me that it's cutting out intermittently again. Took another look at the yoke loom, it was still visually OK and had continuity. Guessed it was broken internally and failing to pass current when flexed. So I changed the loom (another job I hate). All now worked.
A month on, it's back again with the same fault. Do I change the PCB at £15 (that seems to be the only suspect component left), or do I bite the bullet and replace the whole cleanerhead at £52? I don't like just swapping parts until it works, but in this case I'm out of ideas...
Suggestions please!

The head power switch can go intermittent.

The head pcb - i would only suspect the 1R resistor as a passive component fault, otherwise look for dry joints but i never had the issue with dry joints on them.
If that head still has the original motor then i would suspect that to be honest and change the 1R resistor too.

Not many PCBs have an intermittent fault. They usually work or not. Hard call really.

I'm still not convinced I've got right to the bottom of this, but changing the reset switch (again) got it going for now.

I am sticking to my guns at suggesting motor if it's the original. ;D
