As we now have the belt/brushbar removal tools in stock at long last, I was asked to put together a short tutorial so people can see how easy they are to use. So here is how to use your new belt lifter tool.

These tools are designed only for machines with brush control (a clutch), but I reckon if you cut a slot out of one side with a bench grinder, it will suit non-clutched machines too.  ;)

So, here is the tool:

Pop off your sole plate by turning the three plastic screws a quarter of a turn using a two pence coin (or a quarter if you are American) like so:

Then remove your sole plate like so:

Then locate the metal frame over the housing with the arms facing in to the centre of the machine like so:

Take the T-shaped hook, and place it under the belt, then pull the belt up and locate it on one of the pins like so:

Then repeat; pulling the belt onto the other peg as shown:

Having done this, the brush roll will easily come out as shown:

The belt will stay in place allowing you to easily clean your brush roll or insert your replacement:

Reassembly is simply a reverse of disassembly. Be sure to observe the correct position for the brush roll ends before you release the belt again. Before you refit the sole plate, turn the brush roll a few times with your fingers to allow the belt to find its proper position on the convex profile it sits on. This ensures you do not trap the belt when you refit the sole plate.

Job done. Far better using the proper tool than fighting with two screwdrivers.
