Hi All,
I have just replaced the motor in my DC05 as it had burnt out. Purchased from Manchester Vacs - excellent service and this looks like a great place to get some advice!
So, after changing the motor the DC05 fired straight up - happy days!
However the suction doesn't seem as good as I remember and the air which exits past the cable reel seems hotter than I remember. It has been I while since I used the DC05 though (been using a broom!) and maybe this is how it should be. The dirt in the cylinder doesn't spin like I'm sure it used too.
A search on here suggested trying it without the HEPA filter but still hot and down on suction.
I haven't run it for long enough to cut out as I am worried about burning out the new motor.
I am sure the new motor is fine as it makes all the right noises!

Double triple check everything has gone back together properly and that nothing is blocked. There are a couple of threads on the forum regarding dc05 stripping and rebuilding, perhaps a search for them and a read might find the problem.

Have you fitted a new pre-filter? Or washed and dried the old one properly? (Not just rinsed it under the tap.)
Does it run hot without the cyclone? Is the cyclone blocked?

Thanks for the replies and sorry it's taken so long to get back - busy couple of weeks!
Madrat - I'm pretty sure everything has gone back together properly but I will definitely double check.
MVacs - My first thought was that the cyclone (conical bit in the clear drum?) was suspicious. Before posting here I did actually take the top off which revealed a valve of some kind.
Is there a thread on here that details how to clean the cyclone?
I gave the pre filter a good wash but admittedly under the tap - what is the best way?

Bung both bits in the washing machine on a short 30c wash.
Run it with no filter and cyclone and see if it gets hot.

Try taking the cyclone off, hose off and filters out. Run it for 10 minutes and see how hot it gets. Then, whilst running (and with the bottom filters cover on so the cyclone fits properly) drop the cyclone in place. Does the tone/sound/pitch of the motor change dramatically? If so, you have a blockage!
