A friend of my sisters has promised me her kirby, don't know when I will be getting it and not sure what to do with it, Last one I had only sold for £40 and it had loads of accessories with it, don't even know what sort it is.

i would strip it down and do the full Beko 1987 refurb on it and then flog it!
-
That's what I did on the last one but it only went for £40
-
Brilliant!! If it's one I don't have in my collection I'd be interested!
-
Cool! I have the G6 and it's great, has very good performance  What do you think of them vs Dysons?
-
Cant even get $75 for my kirby doorstop
So im selling the parts
G5 if anyone needs any bits
-
There heavy unwieldy and complicated to use compared to a dyson.
Will try to find out what sort it is, I think its quite old.

I strongly disagree with them being complected to use, I think they're more simpler than modern Vacuum's.
The older the better!!

You jest, what about when you want to use the tools, empty the bag etc

Empty the bag is easy, unzip the cloth bag, take the bag out and put a new one in, then zip the bag back up. no more difficult that any other Vacuum if you ask me.
I admit the tools are a little more time consuming to attach than some Vacuums but I wouldn't go as far as to say they're complicated or hard to use.
If you buy one new you get instructions as you do with all Vacuum's so that's no different.
In my honest opinion gathered from what I've learned over a few years messing with Vaccum's if you want great performance and top quality you have to sacrifice a small part of convenience. For example having the hose always attached. If you want all convenience you have to sacrifice a lot of quality and performance.
Having said that, I do believe Sebo are doing a good job at having both, as they in my opinion have both to some extent.
With the hose always attached but also great quality and performance.

Nar, dyson up to dc33 are still the best, and much easier to empty than any bagged cleaner. Try carrying a kirby and its tools up the stairs compared to any dyson!

I took my Legend II to my mother-in-law's house last week, I was supposed to be washing their carpet but since they have a Henry I took a Vacuum to make sure I got as much dirt up as possible... Anyway my point was, I carried the Legend up both flights of stairs with no problem, and then Vacuumed the stairs on the way back down again, with no issues. Kirby's aren't as heavy as many make them out to be.
I also carry them up and down my loft ladder fairly often because I like to switch between them and I have to store them in the loft...
I'm sorry Mr Madrat, Dude, but I wouldn't have started this debate if I didn't believe I have hard ground to stand on... :)
I agree Dysons are lighter, but that is because they're made from weaker plastic.
While I'm here and on the Topic, I'd like to clear up that I hate Dyson because of their stupid prices, if their prices matched their products I'd have no issues with them.
It's not our fault they spend far too much on development and other crap.

Id rather a hoover junior than a kirby any day, at least there manageable. Sorry Mr rusty but kirby is just ancient technology made heavier than needed, just like everything else from USA.

I do agree with you on that.

:biglaugh:
I almost never use a kirby for actual vacuuming. I like them for carpet cleaning performance but I have other nicer to use cleaners with similar capabilities. One great example is the royal I still hope to get to Mr. Rusty someday....

We need to sort that out!

I have a week off school in 2 weeks, I was thinking that would be a good time.
-
I would have to agree with madrat that people find the kirbies tools too much of a polava to use, as whenever you find a used kirby the machine is beat to hell but the attachments are brand new in most cases along with the shampoo tray.

Yes it would!

Too many people are lazy.

"Too many people are lazy" - This is 2017, everyone's used to the modern convenient stuff :chuckle:
Why would I use a Kirby with meh suction and that takes like a minute to assemble when I can pull out a DC14 wand with 290 AW within the blink of an eye? ;D I can also vacuum up any object I want, whereas if I suck up something too solid I could damage the fan on the Kirby...
Same goes for other brands like Vax and Hoover, you need to bend over, unravel the hose from the curved bits and assemble :boggleeye:
-
Rusty btw you should look into Riccar vacuums. :icon_nod: They are a clean air AND a dirty air machine apparently, which is a system called "tandem air"
-
Sucky suction and flimsy tools on the kirby. At least a dc17 has a metal wand and decent attachments.

Ikr!
Dirty airs may excel for carpet cleaning but you can't really beat clean airs for hose suction I'm afraid...
PS My G6 has been in the cellar for ages, not used it since, been using the DC41 everyday ;D
-
Kirbies have their place. But a royal is a better machine. But you hardly seem em now that sebo/windsor market commercial sweepers.
-
Ikr, I wish Kirbys were more popular here in schools etc but atleast we have Numatic Henrys caked around the country though ;D

You said it, we live in a nation of extremely lazy people. I'd go back to the 50's in the blink of an eye. Lazyness is the work of the Devil.
-
give me the 70s
-
give me the 70s
I wasn't alive in the 50's or 70's apart from in my past life, but I can only remember parts of that and that was the early 50's.
But anyway, anytime before people became lazy would work for me.
-
I cant imagine gardening in a tie and suit trousers so no to the 50s :chuckle:
-
Dude back in the 50's it was kind of formal but not that much, I've been watching a documentary "A Look At Life* and it's so inspiring you wouldn't believe.
It's a series made in the 50's up until the 90's looking at what modern life is like.
-
Never had a Kirby, Want to get one sometime though
-
I have a Heritage for sale.
-
It's funny because I saw a Kirby G4 at Goodwill today... I would have purchased it except:
- they charge $1.19/lb, so I wasn't about to spend ~$35 on it.
- it was pitted badly
- the brushbar was worn
- I feel Kirby's are ugly throwback vintage silliness
So, I left it there in the bin where it belongs. >:(
-
I sodl my G6 and regret it. Probs my favourite Kirby! I have a HEritage 2 and Sentria atm, selling the Sentria so I can get a nice G6 again
Holla at me if you wanna swap for a G6 with all the tools for my Sentria with all the tools ;)
