Title: DC07 SCREECHING NOISE
Post by: spikey1509 on September 19, 2014, 05:20:54 pm
Hi All,

I have been repairing a DC07 Clutch less for a friend, it makes a horrible screeching noise every so often. The brush bar housing keeps breaking at one end, allowing the brush bar to wobble in the housing. The belt also keeps going slack , so I've replaced it. Cleaned both ends of the brush bar with WD40 to free it up, runs fine for a while , then all of sudden makes the horrible Screeching noise and the motor seems to be quite hot!.. :'( :'(

I'm baffled, thinking about changing the brush bar but, it's not actually seizing!. If it had a clutch I'd say it was that but, it doesn't!!..

Can anyone help, it can't be the motor because that runs fine, but does get hot!..

Regards,

Jason

Clutchless brushbars get bent. They are usually noisy because of that.

Hi again,

Still having problems with this pesky DC07 Clutchless, basically it seems to be getting too hot and melting the belts. At the end of the day it can only be the motor, belt or brush bar!. How difficult can it be, are the belts I'm using too cheap, the drive rod on the motor seems to get too hot and melts the belt!1 :'( :'( :'(

What do I do next!. Not the motor, that runs fine and brushbar is spinning.

Any suggestions would be very welcome!..

Regards,

Jason

As already advised by MVacs, I'd suspect that the brushroll is bent out of true, and that's causing the added friction to overheat the belt.
You can rule out the motor by detaching the belt and running it for a few minutes to see if the drive shaft is  still overheating or not, but very unlikely to be a motor fault.
If you've damaged the brushroll mounting points in the housing as well, you'll need to change that too.

I have just had a DC07 Origin come in with a screeching noise and my first thought was the brushbar. Took it off, powered it up and the motor ran without any abnormal noises so put a new brushroll and belt on and it runs nicely now. Do the checks as suggested by macman  and you will probably find a new brushbar and belt cures it.

I remembered this thread the other night, had an origin in for a light refurb. It screeched like hell when turned on, removing the belt had it sounding smooth. One of the brushroll bearings had seized solid.

Cover caps off, scraped all the hard black crap out with a pin, got it turning again. Re-packed with grease, back together, new belt and she was smooth and quiet again!

Just incase it helps!
