Title: DC14 burning smell & now wont start

We have had the DC14 Animal for a few years now - no problems until today!  We got a burning smell and a couple of pops from the motor.  Turned it off & then back on - nothing.

I started to disassemble it - sponge & HEPA filters were solid - sponge now washed out.

Fuse & switch OK - suspect the motor (and after reading other posts here - very strongly suspect the motor) - So ... How do I get at it & how can I make sure (before ordering a replacement part)? I have removed all the torx screws - but cannot see how to remove the motor cover.

OK - so I followed the DC07 disassembly guide on the 'Dyson medic' site - which was close enough.  I now have a motor - which does not seem jammed, does not smell of burnt wiring and even seems to have reasonable length brushes.

But INFINITE RESISTANCE across the  two leads - so does that confirm a dead motor?

Infinite resistance is a burn out (An 'infinite' resistance reading across a motor indicates an open winding). Badly clogged filters means a burn out. Burning smell and popping means a burn out.

Yes, you need a new motor.
