Title: beater bar?
Post by: mikeyh on December 11, 2011, 08:45:34 am
our DC04 has been stored for a couple of years. now needed, the beater bar turns a couple of times and then stops. the motor spindle continues turning and causes the fanbelt to burn and break.
Can i repair or is a new bar needed?

It sounds like you have a seized brush roll.

You can replace the bearings but it is often a false economy.

As you didn't mention a clutch, I am assuming you have a grey/green DC04? If so, I recommend changing the brush roll and the belt.

Try removing the beater-bar,pull off the end caps, remove any fluf etc either end of the  bar and spray with a little wd40 ,,and as said in previous post replace the rubber belt that should sort it out, :tiphat:
