Title: DC18 Main Motor does not remain on after releasing the red push button

 :'(

Today, our DC18 began not staying on after releasing the red push button.
We were using the wand and the main motor would only stay on with the button depressed.
I removed the 4 screws holding the switch cover. Nothing appeared to be broken. After putting it back together, it would still only run with the button depressed.  This is true with the wand in use, or with it in the handle.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

I suspected that this might be the case.
I found the part on several US websites by Googling the part.

Thanks again for your help. I received the new switch. Now I have the problem of removing the switch cover to access the power switch.

I removed the 4 Torx screws with no problem. This frees up the upper part of the cover, however something is holding the bottom section of the switch cover. The cover moves so whatever is holding it is not a screw. The upper portion of the switch cover will rotate outward about 20 degrees, but that is as far as it moves. There is nothing on the back side which can be popped to release the cover.

• I tried using a powerful LED light to look behind the cover, but it is not possible to see anything.
• I slide a very thin screw driver between the switch cover and the body, but could find no tabs which would realease the cover.
• I checked on the internet, but every photo of the switch cover is from the front which provides no clues as to what is holding it in place.
• There is a Youtube video describing the removal of a DC07 switch cover - remove one Torx screw and it pops right off. This is nothing like the DC18 Slim that I have.
• Several other people are asking the same question, and the only suggestion is "more elbow grease." Any more elbow grease and I will only succeed in breaking the switch cover.

I would appreciate any suggestions for removing the switch cover without breaking it.
