Title: Dyson Dc04 wont tilt back
Post by: chivvy on May 03, 2015, 12:01:59 pm
Hi,

I have the opposite issue of "Dyson DC04 won't stand up".

Mine stands up ok but when I want to use it I have to apply an awful lot of pressure to the soleplate in order to get the handle to tilt back. When it does tilt back it is with a very loud cracking noise.

Can't see anything obviously wrong or out of alignment.

Any advice gratefully received.

Regards

Pete

Whats the state of the little black wheel that sits under the brushroll housing?

You can just about see it with the machine reclines (sorry!) And the little wheel should move freely. If you get it moving a drop of oil helps.

I can't see any little black wheel.

The base rotates freely when it's reclined though, it's just the unclipping from the upright position that is a problem.

If you can't see a wheel then it may be missing, I'll get a photo later so you can confirm. Basically, from upright, the wheel and sprung lever have to go over a kink in the motor housing to release, if everything's not working spot on this can be tricky as the wheel doesn't ride over the kink and out the other side

Beko's right. On the underside of the foot plate there is a plastic bracket with spring and small wheel, approximately 1cm in diameter. Make sure that it's free to rotate. You can also reduce the tension in the spring by chopping a bit off.

That sounds exactly like my issue. If you're able to post a pic so that I can check I'm looking for the ball in the right place that would be a great help.

Just dismantled it, the little wheel was still on the lever but was very stiff. I put some vaseline on it and reassembled.

All good now. Again, thanks to everyone for their help and advice.

Can somebody tell me if the small wheel that allows the DC04 to recline is available as a spare? Mine is missing?

You'll find it here (https://shop.manchestervacs.co.uk/dyson-upright-vacuum-cleaner-spares/dc04-spares/dc04-dc07-dc14dc33-upright-lock-ass-908822-01).

Put in the order comments if you have clutched or non clutched as there are two types.
