Title: DC27 Wont switch on

Hi, I have a DC27 that wont switch on.  the fuse is ok, the plug buzzes out to switch, the swith buzzes out and from the switch to the motor terminals.  mightily confused.

Customer said that it just cut out when being used and would'nt switch back on again.  last time i tried to bench test a motor it went flying !! so reluctant to do that again.  have you ever known a motor to go faulty, just by not working all of a sudden?

Happens all the time on brushroll motors! TOC gone on the motor?

TCO would be the first thing I would try.

thanks both for your replies.

I never come across this yet.  I have removed the suspected faulty thermal cut out from the motor and also removed another one from a stocked motor. Both seem to be buzzing out in the same areas.  Is there a wy of confirming it is faulty by using a multimeter ?

If not ill have to just attach the new TCO and see if it cures it ?

Bizzare !!  I attached the new TOC on the existing motor, still nothing.  I attached a replacement motor and it worked.  It seems to be an electrical connection in the motor itself and not the associated circuitry or TOC. I have not seen this before.  I've seen nosiey motors, shorting motors where flames have melted the filters, but never one that just wont switch on.  I took the TOC's off both the working and faulty motors and measured resistance between terminals.  Working motor was 0.00 and faulty was open circuit.

Thanks for your helps, but I think a new motor is in order now.

Check the carbon brushes to see how short they are. They shouldn't really be short. Also check the armature to see if its been smothered in carbon dust. If it is, then its a burnt out motor

I had a motor that had lose connections where the brushes met the internal connections to the motor terminals. tightened them up and it was fine.  worth a look.

I took the carbon brushes off, had a poke around and this was the culprit.
