Title: DC25 brush bar not working
Post by: holty on November 14, 2012, 09:14:54 pm
Hi all  ;)

I'm not technical so please bare with me but i'm willing to give it a go.

My brush bar stopped working on my DC25 ball the other day. So ended up hoovering everything using the wand  ;D

I've had a good search and done the following:

1. Cleaned out the brush bar roller - no change
2. Located the reset switch and pressed - no change.

When trying to remove the switch cover it doesn't look like the bottom part of the cover has detached - I can't now push the cover back because of the plastic 'male' piece on the inside is now slightly higher than before - any ideas on a way i can detach the bottom of the cover without snapping the plastic?

So now i'm thinking its the motor in the brush bar itself. I've just removed the brush bar and taken out all the screws. On assessing the motor i can see that the white wire that is attached to the motor (in a plastic right angle) has come apart - how would i fix this?

Any ideas?

Looks like you need to solder the white wire back on.

However, the brush roll motors are prone to going. And they are not available on their own, so if it is duff, you will need to replace the whole cleaner head.

hi - thanks for your reply.

I was thinking i would need a new cleaner head, do you know how I can get the switch cover back in the original place?

Replaced the cleaner head and its all working - just can't get the switch cover to go back. Anyone know how I can fully remove it so I can refit?

Had another go at trying to either get the switch cover off cleanly or to try and get it back on from the angle it is currently in. Couldn't manage either!

The problem i have is that the dust bin won't fit on due to the cover being at a funny angle (i tested the new cleaner head by holding the bin in place).

Any ideas on what I can do? Anyone else managed to get the switch cover off before? How did you detach the lower part?

Hi Holty.  If you put a screwdriver where mine is on the picture below and lever the screwdriver down, you should see the switch housing move up or forward.

That's great thanks - really appreciate the picture and reply.

Will have a bash at that when I get home. Will get me back in the good books  ;D
