Hi everyone im new here! so please excuse my spelling if its wrong and how do you upload pictures because mine are too big. or how do you shrink them. recently i saw a big purple dco4 in the electrical bin at the tip and i felt sorry for that hoover and well asked the dump guy if i could take it and he said yes. so threw it in the car and went home. its a shame that i didn't take any pictures because every hose was blocked on the hoover and thanks to the dc01 and a long stick i managed to unblock all the hoses. then i checked the brush bar and well it was full of hair as well. cleaned it all up and put it all back together. and gave it a wee test run and well its works very well and sticks to the carpet and hard to push haha ;D. Monday after noon i was stripping her right down and cleaned it all up with soapy water and a scrubbing brush, i was so tempted to just stick it all in the dishwasher at a low temperature but i decided not just in case it broke them and the sticker would of came off!. put it all back together and i now runs even better :thumbsup:.
Later the end of that week i found another dc04 standard (yellow) brush control. was in excellent condition apart from the dyson logo scratched but that didn't bother me. everything was fine so i plugged it in and there was no life from it!? :dead-dyson:. checked the fuse, nope fine, checked the switch and it was fine as well, the cable was fine as well. well there was only one answer, the motor is screwed. took it all apart and yeah it was. the carbon brushes just about down to the metal and the amateur on the motor was worn.
well i thought well what am i going to do with this then? decided to take the purple and green a bits again and do a slight change to the body. well i know its not original but i quite like all the gray,green and purple. the body on the purple one was all cracked and the crevice tool holder broken on the want. so i done a full rebuild again ::).
i do have a slight problem though. when its in use i smell electoral burning from the motor and no funny noises? do you guys know what it could be? the motor is fine the amateur is very clean and not worn and its the same with the carbon brushes :angryman:

Have you changed the post motor filter? If the motor brushes have been burning down, then the smell will linger in the filter unless it's changed. Otherwise 'electrical burning smells' means the motor is about to expire.

If you remove the cyclome, post filter cover, lost filter and unscrew the diffuser, thrn turn it on, do you see a bright flash when it turns on?
If not, run it for a bit and keep sniffing with the filter off.

That looks fantastic! Sorry for being a little nosey but I spot a Dyson DC01 in the background! ;D Lovely! You also did a very good job with the Dc04- it looks lush Well done :) A new motor should keep it going. I noticed that the gren and grey models of Dc04 without a clutch rarely burn out, they have an Italian motor I think so are very good quality

PS I have that same Dyson Dc04 in the shed, it's in bad conditon after it had been used for our house renovation and blew 2 motors up! It's just got perfect stickers omg cos I got it ex cond for £20 with no hose and no tools

Thanks yes that's a DC01 behind. my mum bought it brand new in 1995 I think. sine then its had a new motor, kick plate, wand, cyclone, hose and cable. the Dyson man replaced all of that years ago.

UPDATE: the DC04 burning smell has stopped :bow:.the motor housing was full of black smelly soot from the old motor arcing :'(. all nice and clean now and now all I can smell is fairy liquid smell (apple) when I turn it on :biglaugh:

Nice! Very good ;D and it seems unusual for a DC01 to have a new motor, lol. Was it burnt out or just a generous service? :P Either way it looks like in very good condition for 20 years old :O well done on keeping it so pristine!

Ohh okay I assume this has an Ametek motor as it's an early model :)

Nope it dissent have a Ametek motor in it. I would like one for it though. Their are the more powerful one's

Omg a YDK motor in an early DC01? wow :o
BTW the YDK is more powerful actually :P Slightly more suction than the Ametek and the brush spins faster I think, hence grooms better but Ametek is quieter
