A long, long time ago now, I picked up this down on it's luck Sebo X4!
And a while ago, it got the usual treatment, so here we go!

Utterly filthy inside, but a new bag had been fitted, which was nice

Some ominous looking gaffa tape on the wand though
As in the above before video, I cut the carbon filter up for a laugh/to make it work a bit better short term, which made a bit of a mess

And after using it for a bit, the stripdown commenced! I had 'borrowed' parts from it though to fix the X1 I wrote about a while ago, that I tried stripping down things that did not want to be stripped down and failed, so The Gaffer from these very pages helped me out with some nice used parts, which are not fitted during the stripdown, hence the wheels and brushroll out below.
Anyway, it came into the house in bits as thats how I stored it in the shed as it fitted in more easily

Bag door first

The bag holder needs to come out

The safety lever that stops the bag door closing with no bag pops out, along with its little spring

Then the whole assembly slides down and off the orange rear of the main opening handle

Behind all that, a cover unscrews that holds the orange lever in place
[attachimg=1]
It wiggles free of it's captive prison
[attachimg=2]
There are 2 screws at the bottom of the bag door too

Which hold the front trim on. I could not get this off at this stage so gave up through fear of damage, however whilst washing it, it fell off! Turns out it slides on from the top...

Time for the handle now, the cable is released

And the handle is removed
[attachimg=6]
One screw holds the hand grip onto the shaft
[attachimg=7]
Then the hand grip pulls up slightly, then once clear the rear part comes away

To remove the cable, first we undo the clamp, noting the totally over complicated wiring arrangements

The cable can be unscrewed from the 2 switch terminals and pulled free of the oppressive regime of the handle

One little issue the machine had was a perished cable exit guide.

At this stage, a perfectly acceptable solution is to chop the offending segment off, but only if it's near the top. You need a new grommit if it's totally past it.
The wires running off to the bottom of the machine are spade terminal'ed onto the base of the switch. Once unplugged the rest of the hand grip comes away

Within the plastic hand grip is a little grounding strap that connects to the metal handle. Once unhooked along with the neutral wire, it pushes down slightly, gets unhooked from it's little plastic holder and can then be pulled out

The switch pushes out of the handle after removing the outer plastic trim
[attachimg=5]
The rest of the metal handle contains the main plug to the body of the machine. This pushes out, and can be a real fluff trap

No way of dis-assembling this, and blowing the fluff out doesnt do it, I find 5 minutes with a pin picking the chunks out the best way, you'll be amazed at how much is in there! Or just don't bother as you don't see it when back together, your call really!
We can move on to the bag housing now. The inlet gubbing is hiding behind this housing, which unscrews and lifts off

Remove the hose clip first though otherwise it won't pull out and free of the machine

There is a metal bracket that slides into the side of the hose inlet tube, it's reason to exist I'm not too sure of actually...

The bag seal lifts off

We can now lift out the other side of the handle plug

Then the cable clamps need removing. The top two are simple, the lower one holds the second safety device, which stops the bag door fitting without a filter in place (which is easily bypassed, as it is here...)

Underneath the bag housing, where the bag housing meets the motor housing is yet another plug that carries the wire across another removeable section

Two screws this time and out it pulls. But, the wire won't release yet. You need to push the 2 male terminals out of the top plug before the wires will pass out

The lower cord hook/carry handle unscrews
[attachimg=8]
Then the two halves of that seperate, along with the 'latching' spring

Nestled right up top is the locking assembly for the handle. This prises out quite easily with the removal of a circlip, which just pushes off

Let's get the crevice tool out of it's holder now

And remove the two tool holder clips
[attachimg=4]
[attachimg=5]
Back to underneath now, and we need to remove all the screws you can see
[attachimg=6]
Then the bottom cover pops/prises/levers off fairly easily, once you push the big yellow button in so the outer skin can pass over it

Inside we can see the latching mechanism that secures the 2 parts together

Which just lifts out

And that's the bag housing done! Slight tangent now for the brushroll, which is already removed in my case

Remove the copious amounts of crap
[attachimg=2]
Then the rear wheels
[attachimg=3]
I took the end caps off to clean the fluff from within, but went no further. This is where I went wrong last time...

We can now move on
[attachimg=5]
And this is where it got messy
First the post filter cover came off
[attachimg=6]
Then it's actual brushroll came out, which is so worn it puts the brushroll light on, so that went in the bin

The little bit of blue trim pops off the brushroll end cap/latch
[attachimg=9]

We can remove the motor hood now

The post motor filter cover latch is held in with an screw
[attachimg=2]
The brushroll release button, it's springs and the bumper lift out
[attachimg=3]
We can unscrew the secondary PCB after unplugging the 2 ribbon connectors
[attachimg=4]
[attachimg=5]
Then the belt cog mechanism can be removed, along with the motor to cogs belt
[attachimg=6]
The recline stay brace and it's cover slide out, note also a bit of anti vibration foam has fallen off too

The height adjuster motor unscrews and lifts out, bringing the centre wheel with it
[attachimg=8]
The power PCB can be unplugged
[attachimg=9]

And then unscrewed

The brushroll drive cog is unscrewed
[attachimg=2]
And removed
[attachimg=3]
Now for the motor, and we remove the rather distorted cover, this thing's been HOT before...

The motor lifts out now
[attachimg=5]
It's a Domel unit, not familiar with their work though
[attachimg=6]
We can remove the 2 screws holding a trim piece for the pivoting mechanism now
[attachimg=7]
Then that whole unit just lifts out too
[attachimg=8]
Nice build up around the bottom felt seal
[attachimg=9]

The offending filthy piece just lifts out
[attachimg=1]
The motor side of the pivoting housing has 2 fabric seals, which lift out for cleaning
[attachimg=2]
On the inner piece, 2 plastic spacer rings pull out
[attachimg=3]
Inside that is the last part of the spinal wiring, and another cable clamp to remove
[attachimg=4]
Remove the spade terminals from the covers and the wires pull out
[attachimg=5]
The locking tab for the recline mechanism slides fully out with a bit of force
[attachimg=6]
Some lovely mould forming...

2 screws and a little cover releases the blockage inspection port from the underneath of the chassis
[attachimg=8]
Nearly there, baseplate now!

I think this machine has led a hard life...

The front metal strip pops out of the chassis, bringing a nice layer of crud with it
[attachimg=2]
The 3 stay bars for the brushroll to stop it fully sucking light flooring up pull out once cracked free of their crud prison

And there we are! Tomorrow night (or another night...) we shall re-assemble it and see how it came out. Stay tuned!

Right, where were we? Ah yes, all ready for re-assembly!

And we shall start with the brushroll guards, which came up nicely with a light polish!

The front baseplate can go on now

Then the rear one

The blockage flap next, and with the little axle removed all the grit can be flushed out, making it much smoother in operation!

It sits nicer too now its not being held open with accumulated fluff

The securing blocks can be screwed down

Pivoting mechanism now, which is now shiny and white, and not full of moldy dirt
[attachimg=2]
The recline lock slots back in

The two parts that hold it all into the machine have the washed and fluffier/more air tight felt strips re-inserted

The little felt seal is placed back into the chassis
[attachimg=5]
The wires can be run back through the unit and slotted into the chassis
[attachimg=6]
And screwed down
[attachimg=7]
The motor gets the end seals fitted and dropped into place
[attachimg=8]
Oddly the housing is melted quite alot, but the wires still fitted into the little cutout for them

And the top motor cover screwed into place. My gosh it is warped isnt it! Motor is in good health though, which is a bit strange

Brushroll drive cog now

Fitted, with the first belt

Then the middle cog assembly is fitted, along with the motor to middle belt
[attachimg=5]
The power PCB drops into place now, and the wires connected
[attachimg=6]
Height adjustment module fitted, along with the center wheel

Then the control PCB is fitted and plugged in
[attachimg=8]
The motor spindle guard and stabiliser bar are fitted
[attachimg=9]

Brushroll eject button and it's 2 springs in place

Post filter cover latch screwed back into the hood
[attachimg=2]
And the hood can be refitted
[attachimg=3]
The cleaned up brushroll inserted
[attachimg=4]
Rear wheels screwed in
[attachimg=5]
Post filter cover fitted (sans filter for now, I forgot to get it out of the shed at this juncture)

Moving on up, the securing bar is refitted

And the cover part is slotted on and screwed in
[attachimg=8]
Tool holders fitted

Way up top now, the handle latch is refitted, along with its circlip

Lower cord hook/carrying handle re-assembled
[attachimg=2]
And fitted
[attachimg=3]
Back to electronics again, the very bottom of the middle cable run is fitted and screwed into place

The cable run up and clamped down
[attachimg=5]
Then the top wiring is placed, and the bag entry/hose entry port is fitted and screwed down
[attachimg=6]
The wiring is run through the handle
[attachimg=7]
Switch fitted
[attachimg=8]
Mains cable inserted into the handle, and wired up to the switch along with the other wiring
[attachimg=9]

And with the handle closing piece on, the handle is done!

Bag door now, the outer trim piece can go on

Bag door latch handle in, along with the rubber locating bushes

Bag holder slid up and the bag door handle located into it so it's pushed down when the handle is lifted

Time for some new bags now

And a new pre motor filter

Now the hose can go on

Back to the wheels, and there is something missing here

I found the spring for the bag door safety latch that I mislaid when stripping it down (Charlie found it on the floor, whoops...) so fitted that

Fitted the filter safety latch spring (I took this off so I could close the bag door for storage without needing the very full bag it came with fitted...)

Fitted a new upholstry tool, and she is done!

Best check it works...
And it does! Sold within 20 minutes of being listed for sale too, which was nice!

Was that post motor cover grille warped from overheating in the past?

I thought so, but the motor didnt look like it had been hot, no damage on it, just a warped housing. All I can think of is the vac got put in a hot place, but I would have expected more warping to the hood. Is most strange!

How do the wires go back into the handle? Not the ones from the mains plug but those from the metal part of the handle with the spade connectors? I am trying to reassemble the handle and can't get these back into the grey part of the handle to reconnect. There appear to be three channels in this part of the handle and I assume they run through the middle one?

I used this site to help take apart my X5 bag chamber. I would've figured it out myself but your photos made my job easier lol.

I have a question about my ongoing refurb of an x1.1 machine:
Where does Part Number 5319 - Bag Holder Spring (#18 in the exploded diagram) actually go!? I cannot work it out... :-/

Found it! It's under the bag lever bar, which is held in place by the cover (5707). Problem solved... 👍
