Motor will not run in the upright position. With handle down, beater runs but with no suction. Switches are OK and no clogs. Any suggestions?

Motor will not run in the upright position.
Hello Tony,
When you say the "motor" wont run in the upright position, do you mean the brush roll?
-
I am speaking of the MAIN motor.
-
The main motor cuts off when the machine is stood upright but works when it is reclined then?
-
NO. MAIN MOTOR WILL NOT RUNAT ALL!

Motor will not run in the upright position.
Your quote made it ambiguous. Now I understand.
OK, so the main motor is not running and you have tried the switches. Was there any bubbling, popping or strange smells? Or did it just not work one day?
-
Just would not work one day when tried.
Switches are all okay.

The power cord must be OK as the secondary brush roll motor is running, you have tested the switches, and assuming there are no other reset buttons apart from the one on the brush-roll (The DC17 is not a UK model so I giving "acquired-by-reading" and generic upright Dyson advice here as opposed to specific "from DC17 experience" advice), we must suspect the motor.
My next job would be to strip it down and bench test the motor.
Any US readers that know better, do please chime in.

The dc17 has motor issues. My motor is shot. Dyson sucks for the money!
