Title: A Dyson DC04 Zorbster Reborn!
Post by: MVacs on March 31, 2011, 09:26:21 pm
"What is a Dyson Zorbster?" many people ask.

The Dyson DC04 Zorbster was a grey and lavender Dyson that also doubled up as a carpet cleaner by the addition of a front mounted hopper that dispensed Dyson "Zorb" carpet dry cleaning crystals. Technically, they are quite similar to a standard "all floors" Dyson except for a few technical differences that allow the operation of the carpet cleaning hopper. They were never terribly popular as a carpet dry cleaning machine in our opinion; most people tended to use them as a regular vacuum.

When we recondition these machines today, we tend convert them to a regular "all floors" machine, removing the carpet cleaning facility altogether.

However, a few days ago we were contacted by a Dyson enthusiast. He wanted a new Dyson Zorbster. He had called Dyson already who told him they were obsolete and no longer available. So next, he called us to see if we could help. As it happens, we had a couple of machines we had got amongst the machines we get for recycling. We also have many spare parts and a few of the additional carpet cleaning hoppers in stock too. We made a plan to build him a reconditioned Dyson DC04 Zorbster and fit a brand new motor while we were doing it.

He mentioned he reads the forum here from time to time, so when he collected it today, on his way out of the shop with a big grin on his face, I took a few pictures for anyone that has not seen a Zorbster as James Dyson intended them to be.  ;)

Here is the machine with the hopper close by:

To attach the hopper, you depress the lever with your foot like so:

This allows you to fit the hopper to the front of the machine:

Then you grab yourself a bag of Zorb powder:

And after opening the front,  insert it into your hopper like so:

This probably the closest to a brand new Zorbster anyone can get nowadays. Even our tech who built it was quite pleased with how it came out and how well it looked. We all agreed it looked brand new. Its always nice to build something just that little bit different as a bespoke order.
