I picked this up ages ago now for under a fiver. I've always loved older AEG machines, they were everywhere when I was a child, and I've always half looked out for them ever since.
So this one is modern, and not as good, but here it is!

Quite early on I had the hose apart and washed

The hose cuff is clipped together

And looking at those images, 3 months elapsed before this next one!

Hose end goes in the box first!

And onto the floor head. AEG used to make wonderful floor heads (I have an example of one for another day/thread), but sadly this is a cheaper single pedal affair

Metal base plate though, so not too bad!

Undo the screws

It has one lint strip in tact

2 springs

Then the brush layer lifts out

Some considerable picking later had it much cleaner!

The pedals clip out

To split the rest, each rear wheel has an end cap that reveals a clip

Remove all that

And that's the floor tool done! Onto the main machine now

It has 3 tools, which are not the originals, but pattern spares, which need washing anyway

The whole top of the machine lifts off to change the bag anyway,

2 tabs at the back lift it off completely

This odd front trim part unclips, I think this is to help lift the bag door up

The hose inlet seemed to be in there pretty well

However a big lever up popped it out

The front bumper part pops off little by little, then falls off

I wish I did not do this, but I unclipped the latch at the front

And snapped off a locating tab, :censored: :censored: :censored:

Motor cover off now

However we are limited in how far we can throw it by the mains cable

The cord reel is never locked, instead a sprung bar clamps the cable. This is the bar!

But still no dice, so off with the plug!

(Can't remember what this part does now) but it's removed by sliding it up!

The post diffuser lifts out now

Up top, the external pedals pop off

Underneath, we can pop the adjuster knob off

Motor now

I found and unpicked the wires from the cord rewind

And removed the cord reel, which is even made by AEG! Even at this late stage

Next, the bag full indicator is run by this rubber tube that goes into the suction duct

With that removed, and some screws undone the whole motor assembly lifts out

The motor fancase seal was stuck to the chassis with filth

The furniture guards come off the chassis

And the bag holders (which also form the safety device to stop the lid closing without a bag) pop out of the chassis

The Pre motor filter sits here

The front wheel unscrews

And the wheel can be removed from the carrier. There's even little reinforcing bushes for the axle! You'd never see that nowadays!

Onto the motor now

This bit is a thermal cutout

One black wire goes from that to the motor, and the other motor wire connects here

Then the slightly rusty motor can be removed

This wire goes from the TCO to the PCB

These two rubber blocks hold the cover onto the motor/vibration dampers

The pipe pulls off the end and the end pulls off the outer shell

Then the other end pulls out bringing the internals with it

The bellows pulls off

This spring pulls it back when it's set off

The motor is in fine fettle though!

I didn't know if this was a date reference of 1993, but then that could just be for the bumper assembly, which fitted much older machines (I have an older one in the shed and it's identical!), so it might not date this whole vacuum

The motor sounded a bit dry on wind down, so it's time to tweak that
Off with the carbons

Off with the top clamp, and the coil
[attachimg=7]
And a drop of oil went on the bearing, and I got some on the fancase end too, which quietened it down a tad!
Everything was then washed, dried and polished and is now ready to re-assemble!

Starting with the lower chassis

First it's back together with the bag full indicator

The two damper blocks go onto the motor housing

Drop all the wiring and PCB in
[attachimg=4]
Fancase seal back into the chassis ans it worked better that way

And on with the motor and screw it all down!

Centre wheel now, push the 2 metal bushes in
[attachimg=7]
Rear and front wheels on
[attachimg=8]
The pre filter cleaned up nicely

Bumper in/on as it also forms the seals for the motor housing

The metal trim for the cord exit hole cleaned up nicely luckily so in that went

Sprung cable trap popped in

And the cable is run through

Before I fitted the plug, I chopped the very end of the cable off, as it had been bent from years of sitting in the one position

Wired the plug

And it looks better already now the plug does'nt sit at an angle!

Bag time! And I have a lovely NOS box of genuine bags for it

Which also came with new pre filters it seems!

So in one went and I binned the one we washed

On with the front guard/bumper

Floor tool now, and it came up nearly clean...

Fit the neck to the head then pop the axle/wheels on to hold it together

Clip the pedal in
[attachimg=6]
Brush part in
[attachimg=7]
Baseplate on
[attachimg=8]
Hose time! And these 2 parts have broken clips

So some glue and a cable tie to hold it whilst it dried did the job

The machine end gets it's seal refitted

And it's nearly done!

However, when I removed the black post filter/diffuser, it fell apart! And I hadn't been into the shed to get my spare stuff, as it was at the back. So that weekend in I went!

Popped the cover off and cut it to size

It sits nicely in the slot

And with the cover on looks like it has always been there

It hasn't sold yet though, annoyingly. Probably because it's bagged, even though it's better than many bagless piles of crap I've sold since doing this for more money than this is up for, but I have a plan B formed in my head for when I get annoyed that it's still around! The bag door release latch is still broken, the glue won't hold it so I priced it at £20 to take that into account (it's fine if your careful) but no dice...

It is a very good machine! AEG always were though, sadly, their just a name for electrolux tat now!
I have a much better AEG in the shed though... Looking forward to that

Every time I see "AEG vampire" I expect it to be the 70s upright
