I got my first DC15 today ;D The Animal one for £10 with all tools in Coventry, missing a wand cap, purple end of the wand slightly worn down but it looks great overall.
Anyways when I got home, I checked the pre filter, it's freaking wet!!! The top cyclone lid was wet on the inside as well so I'm guessing the pcb is wet and so is the motor :'( ffs, so my question is can I use a hairdryer to save the wet PCB? Anyone reckon the fuse is blown as well or is the pcb completely dead? I will have to take it apart tomorrow and see, but just wanna make a thread cos my arms kill carrying it two miles so am not stripping it down tonight lol (yes I carried it through Coventry two miles to the bus stop) You officially think I'm weird :grinn: :coffee: :innocent::chuckle:

Take the pcb cover off and see to start with. The only other way is to take it apart and see, or plug it in in the garden and see what happens (film this bit though)

I plugged it in and it was 100% dead sadly, so I'm wondering if it can be saved with a hairdryer or is it permanently dead?

You wont know until you start dismantling it, start with the fuse in the plug and take it from there.
-
I know that, but is a wet pcb savable when it's 100% dried??
-
Is the moon made of cheese? depends if it's damaged or not.

Alright I'll take it apart tomoz and keep you lot updated ;)

Right I got it apart then
The vac was 100% dead, even the brush motor didn't work when I reclined it.
So a I stripped it down entirely, I found that someone had tempered around with the switch housing wiring. The brown wire was disconnected somewhere and the brush switch was messed up so need replacing.
The pcb looks visibly fine, but deffo has seen water damage.
The main motor is blown up and was wet. The post filter isn't removable from the lid (or is it?) but it was black and slightly damp from the water damage and the carbon dust from it blowing up.
I have no idea if the brush motor works, but the clear plastic has slightly blackened from the carbon dust in the cleaner head and it was pretty hair try as they usually are. I have a spare DC25 motor and pcb, could I shove it in?

PCB is different not sure about motor.
-
The motor looks the same, will try fitting one in
The pcb is just going to convert AC to DC so I just need a way to extend the wiring to make it all fit
The pcb looks visibly the, no burnt marks etc so I will now ask, anyone reckon it will work if a I dry it with a hairdryer?
-
Better off letting it dry on its own.
-
It's been drying for about 6 hours
Will let it dry out properly and give it a go with the dc25 motor
-
DC25 motors dont fit DC15s.
From what you have said, I think you'll struggle with this. DC15s are among the hardest machines to get right.
Do you have a multimeter?

Damn, but I think we do have one somewhere

Just tried fitting a DC25 motor in to the motor housing to see what would happen, it actually fits! ;D Not had to force anything, they both appear to be the same sized motors
The only difference I can see is that the DC25 one has two male connectors at the front whereas the DC15 motor has a male spade connector on opposite sides of the motor

Update
I just fitted a dc25 motor and that's it, given the pcb a dry and brush off
Assembly was easier than expected
It works great! Just left out
A seal so there's less suction at the hose but it works brill
Gonna put it on auction on eBay when I'm bored of it cos it isn't the best condition model

Stellar work here, I never would've thought to put a DC25 BB motor in a DC15! Good to know, I'll remember that.
-
Sorry for any confusion, I fitted the main suction motor from a DC25 into my DC15 ;)
The brushbar motor worked fine so I didn't faff around with that.
