Title: How Do You Clean Your Washing Machine?
Post by: RustySkull on February 10, 2016, 08:23:43 pm
Right, I'm happy with the method I use, but I'm always open to trying new things... Plus I get curious that somebody might have a better way than me lol!

How do you lot clean your washing machines?

Every 2 weeks (Or sometimes every 4 weeks) I pour some liquid descaler into the drum...No specific amount, just 1-2 seconds of pouring... And then do a 95 Degree cycle. This works very well because when I go back and look, the water is usually very milky and has bits floating in it etc so I know it gets all the fat and left over soap and what ever else out

I have a thing on the water pipe that is "Suppose" to stop lime scale, but I still like to think using the descaler also helps get rid of any that might slip the net lol.

So, what methods do you use?  :smokin:

Ours gets pounded with at least 2 60 degree fast washes a day.  Every so often,  when she goes out Ill load it up with hoses,  filters and my working onnthe car clothes if they need doing,  put just powder in and set it off on a 90 degree 3 hour cycle.  The crap it spits out is hilarious! It blocked the trap under the sink once...

Amy bought a bottle of machine cleaner once and we tried it,  dont think it did alot though...

Every now and again I add some washing machine cleaner stuff and do the needful.

If it happens to come up on offer at one of our suppliers it goes on with the order. It comes under the heading of tax deductible things you get the VAT back on when bought from a trade supplier.

Naturally, we only buy such stuff from trade suppliers for the washing machine in the shop.  :whist11:

I doubt we clean ours! lol, as long as it cleans the clothes good :)

We had a Bosch Classix 1400 express and I never seen it being run without any clothes in to clean it, lasted about 9 years with no problems (except one when the spin cycle stopped working)

We have an IndeSHIT now, I hate it's looks and our older Bosch model had touch buttons more fancy anyways. (Off topic sorry). So when we got it brand new in November 2015, we had to use the first cycle empty because it says we have to, I think it's to wash away the oil in the parts?

I think our's could have lasted longer if we maintained it, but it never smelled or anything, maybe it does get cleaned behind my back though lol

I just remembered a TV show called "How clean is your house?" By Kim Burntwood & Aggie McKenzie- Kim told this guy with a filthy washing machine to pour a bit of vinegar into the washing machine drum and it probably would descale it?

Well, it appears only I am making such efforts to make sure my Washing Machine is clean inside lol... I paid not far off a grand for it so apart from anything else I want to look after it. But I also like to think that if it's clean inside it will clean my clothes better too!

I also do the same Descaler treatment in the Dishwasher too as it doesn't only descale, it loosens up loads of other dirt! I watched the drain outside as the Dishwasher was emptying last time and if you didn't know the water was coming from a Dishwasher you'd have thought it was from the toilet. I get a great feeling from knowing things that clean things, are clean themselves lol.

Also, that descaler is great for cleaning the Toilet out, empty the tank, pour in a load of it, and add boiling water.... My Toilet flushes like a Tsunami now ;)

We never had a dishwasher before, but we will have another house extension in the summer for the kitchen, so new appliances including a dishwasher! Would love to play with one and see what it's like. I find it a bit gross though that people put other things like car parts and hair brushes in dishwashers? I mean, because dishes go in there :o

Ive done tjat,  emptied loads into the cistern,  wait half an hour then flush.  Ours also scales up in the bottom of the pan,  which the catches all the skidders.  Descaler,  kettle of hot water and half an hour sorts that too!

Oooh thats good! Have you seen an American toilet? BLOODY HELL if you are constip**ng on the lavatory and want to flush every once in a while, you can't sit down and do it cos the water goes right up to the brim! :o

Plane toilets are mega scary, especially if you use the ones in the middle of the aircraft (near the engines). When I was on a plane 4 months ago, I had to wash my hands, cover my ears and kick the button, it's probably as loud as a Dyson clutch being jammed

I did it at 60 degrees the machine was boiling after the prewash lmao
Will see if it makes a difference to its life expectancy anyway, Hotpoint
Are pretty reliable my moms handed them down to me as there good 😁  :duh:

Haha, the hotter the better because then it dissolves all the stuck body fat, detergent and what ever else that's in there. Even if you did a 95 Degree was with nothing but pure water, if you looked inside there you'd see the water is like Milk, and probably has bits floating in it too.

Lol when I opened the door there was a stench of hot rubber and steam whoomph in your face 😂

Will descale it every 6 months I only use the washer 1-2 tines a week dark warm white wash etc not had a problem with my machine I did buy the domestic and general extended 4 year warranty and I the machine hasn't never broken down it must be hitting near 4-5 years old bow 😉

All my other kitchen appliances are also Hotpoint the fridge freezer foes make strange noises but I just defrost it every few months and its less noisey

Cooker is new only hot last year after my Beko ones oven stopped working,
Utter rubbish appliance though it kept going rusty and beko said I was using
Inappropriate cleaners on it but I wasn't they even went as far as blocking my messages
After that, crappy company!!!!

You'd have a job these days to buy a washing machine made in the UK. I think Ebac is the only one in prospect, and nothing else has been made here in about a decade. Many Bosch models are now made in Spain, not in Germany, and Turkey is another major centre for white goods production.
But Ebac are only ever going to be a very minor player, with a sales target of 150K in an annual market of 15 million machines.
That's assuming they ever get the range launched at all, as no date has yet been announced for the start of production, other than 'later this year'

Even white knight buy the washing machine from Turkey, Vestal I think.  Not 100% sure there tumble dryers are still made in the UK.
