Title: DC30 re build
Post by: Madrat on April 05, 2016, 01:18:58 pm
So as promised here is the re build of my dc30.

All parts washed and ready, I haven't polished them as its going to live in the caravan.

couldn't finger out how to get into the motor so didn't  :whist11:  No post motor filter on this unlike the dc16?

First job is to glue the sealing ring back into the nozzle.

There is a flap in there that closes if you tilt the unit forward to stop bits falling out, not fitted to dc16.  Couldn't get the nozzle off the bin so couldn't investigate further.

Next we take the white flower, and fit the thankfully intact foam seal on it

Then fit it onto the cyclone unit, it only fits one way and be sure to line up the marks if your reusing the seal.

Next fit bin seal to cyclone.

Fit this to the frame, again it can only go one way.

Fit the T10 screw but do not fully tighten yet.

(https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1604/26250736005_593475966c_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/FZFTfD)SDC10026 (https://flic.kr/p/FZFTfD) by Madrat (https://www.flickr.com/photos/139386290@N07/), on Flickr

From underneath fit the 6 T12 screws, bit tricky, fully tighten then tighten previous T10 screw.

Fit the shroud, it's held onto cyclone by these small lugs. It will only go one way so line up the cutout.

Refit the bottom cone.

Refit the bin (bottom flap open) top inner edge needs to be lubricated first.

Fit the filter into the motor unit (no sensor on this )

Fit the parts together and insert battery.

Just waiting for new battery now will let you know how it performs against the dc16.  As I said this is going into the caravan, when were not on electric I will charge it via a small 75watt inverter if needed.

New battery came this evening so left it charging and have just had a quick go,  :icon_nod: impressed, defiantly a bit better than the standard dc16 and feels much lighter, bin is much better at emptying too.  Motor note is completely different to dc16, do they both use digital motors???

DC16 animal with its tiny motor head and new battery are great on the stairs, we have a blue carpet and a malting white cat, a malting grey cat and a malting whit dog  :boggleeye:

Nice job, never seen one of these apart before.

The dc16 uses a standard brushed motor, which explains the need for a post filter, the heavier weight, and the different sound.

I'm on the lookout for one of those dc16's with a powerhead over here, they look nice.

Is the blue clip on that the same as the later ones, which differ slightly in size from the DC16?
