Title: Manchester Vacs is Relocating to the Bulls Head Building in Reddish.
Post by: MVacs on October 23, 2015, 05:47:22 pm
Manchester Vacs (Dyson & Sebo Specialists) (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/) are relocating on February 27th 2016 to the former Bulls Head Hotel (now renamed the Bull's Head Building), 605 Gorton Road, Reddish, Stockport, SK5 6NX (also locally known as Reddish Lane).

It currently looks like this:

[attachimg=2]

But it will look somewhat tidier than that in the coming weeks.  :thumbsup:

For those unsure of the location, it is here:

[attachimg=1 img width=500]

There will be an opening party with entertainment, drinks and nibbles for anyone who is interested to have a look and say hello.

I will update the topic here as work progresses and more information is known.

Excellent! Glad this all came through for you.  Remember to not use a dyson for diy type cleanup though...

Will have to make the trip next year,  only a 380 mile round trip for a quick hello...

So work has started already. We should have 103.6 Tameside Radio (that we advertise on already) doing an outside broadcast on opening day, some local papers, an Austin Powers chap there to make people laugh with jokes about suction, and I am working on a famous face to do the opening.

Looking at a provisional mid January opening with nibbles, drinks, etc. Should be pretty cool on opening day, and probably a breath of fresh air for the people of Reddish as the building has had some unpopular proposals for its future previously.

So we have a banner outside so people know what is happening.

(The hoody isn't one of ours)

People keep popping in to have a nosey; glad to see something happening with the building at last.

For those who may be interested what is happening at the Bull's Head in Reddish, who cannot pop in, this is where we are up to.........

Internal walls, counters and painting in progress............

Looking good, do you have a legal electric supply yet?

Looking good, do you have a legal electric supply yet?

As some will know, the previous occupants afforded themselves a gratis electricity supply in order to facilitate a horticultural endeavour. The electricity company didn't take too kindly to that idea, and promptly cut the building off in the street. We are currently running on a generator, we expect a new mains electricity supply in the next few days.

We have a lot of snagging left to do, and we are waiting on delays relating to the alarm, security, electricity supply, telephone line and internet connections.

It is looking like Saturday 13th 20th February opening at the moment.

Opening day is now fixed for February 27th. :king:

Manchester Vacs, Bull's Head Building. 605 Gorton Road, Reddish, Stockport. SK5 6NX.

[attachimg=1]

We are physically moving from our current location on Abbey Hey Lane on Wednesday the 24th (when we are usually closed). We are open in our new location Thursday the 25th. Our official opening party with Gordon Burns (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Burns) and a live broadcast from our shop with Tameside Radio 103.6 FM (http://www.tamesideradio.com/music/) is between 11am and 2pm on Saturday the 27th February.

For anyone local, there will be nibbles, drinks, a chance to meet Gordon Burns (a great selfie opportunity  :-X), peek around our new shop, meet the staff, say hello to the Tameside radio people and maybe even bag yourself a new Dyson or Sebo vacuum cleaner at a discount on the day. We will have over 100 refurbished and new Dyson and Sebo vacuum cleaners on the shop floor, and our new Dyson museum area will be open so you can look at not only a genuine prototype Dyson, but a rare American licensed Dyson (Fantom) and several of the rarest Dyson models from the early days of Dyson.

As locals of Tameside, Manchester and Stockport will know, the Bull's Head building is an iconic former public house sitting on Reddish Lane/Gorton Road that straddles the physical boundaries of all three districts, and is a well-known local landmark. It has stood shamefully semi-derelict for the last few years until we took it over last year. We have been refurbishing it since last October, and we are very much looking forward to serving the Dyson and Sebo owners of Tameside, Manchester and Stockport with spare parts, repairs and servicing. Not to mention new and refurbished machine sales.

We are not a brand new business; we are an already established business relocating once again back to Reddish. We are a family business who has been in nearby Abbey Hey (Gorton) for almost a decade; a family who first had a shop in Reddish in the mid 1970's.

We look forward to meeting anyone and everyone who is interested on Saturday the 27th February between 11am and 2pm at the Bull's Head.  :thumbsup:

Your new place is coming along wonderfully, friend. Very happy for you! One day I hope to have a location as prime as yours. We've actually a few old Fantom machines if you're ever in the market for a housing, keep me in mind. I'll do it cut rate. Congrats champ! Keep up the good work.

Good luck! Don't break anything!

Don't forget the moving pictures! You chosen a machine to give the shop a final cleanup prior to unlocking the door on opening day?

I can just imagine a Krypton Factor test involving the re-assembly of a cyclone. Quickest wins a nice prize!

Good luck with the move. I hope it all goes well. I am hoping to move into a shop soon too. Just trying to get the lease sorted out and then can get things started. Maybe 3 weeks? Nothing as fancy as yours though!

My preferred choice is to buy something but locally, it is proving difficult. They either ask stupid money or only want to rent.

Thanks for the good wishes all, we are in. 2 vans, 5 blokes and both ladies organising stuff office side. A little bit of stuff still to bring over tomorrow, plenty of putting away and sorting still to do, but we broke its back today. Computers are all in, net and card machine working, coffee machine is in, half the signs are up outside (sign men started a day early), even some of tomorrows orders already printed. Pretty mammoth day actually.  :icon_nod:

I'll get some pics tomorrow when we are more sorted.

People have started to drift in already today for a mooch about; which is nice.

You chosen a machine to give the shop a final cleanup prior to unlocking the door on opening day?

Yes, our Sebo demonstrators come tomorrow, An X1, an X4 Pet and a Felix with the Union flag bag. And we need to get familiar with them.  :thumbsup:

The place looks full already though. Gawd knows how we got all that stuff in the last place. Van after van stacked to the roof! The great thing about moving is you find loads of swag that you either forgot you had or couldn't find before. I found loads of Dyson washer stuff and some new DC15, DC18, DC21 and Airblade stuff I forgot we had.

A few months ago from someplace I found online. About £120 each. I'll dig out the link if you need it.

Thanks, Ade. I am pretty passionate in everything I do. Do it properly or not at all is my motto. Same as we try to do with our machines. Four months ago that building stood empty and very damp; it has been empty since about 2011. Its a great space, on a good busy road. It wouldn't suit every business; but it suits us. It has swallowed money - as very old buildings do - the last few months, but I am happy with the result. If the local people support us, and I suspect they will as they were not long ago campaigning against a proposed mosque on the site (https://bnp.org.uk/news/regional/stockport-bnp-draws-red-line-against-islamic-colonisation-south-manchester), we will keep the wolf from the door.

That looks fantastic! Even the dc04's look new!
Best wishes for the grand opening.

Ta very much! The local radio station (http://player.insidetameside.com/) has been pumping it all day. They are happy I got Gordon Burns on board. He is a pretty big name in broadcasting in and around Manchester. And to anyone who used to watch the Krypton Factor on TV.

Mighty fine entrance you have there. Like your signage. Very nice place you have there.

First impressions count don't they? I spent half today standing outside staring at it with a coffee in my hand.

Lovely! That looks incredible ;D Love the layout too :thumbsup:

I'll put the back half in the trade room. You will love the parts stores more.  :-*

That looks amazing! Must pop up for a browse and to get in your way this year!

I keep telling you to come visit us! We have fab coffee from our spiffy German machine, and the famous Curry Mile nearby. Hotels nearby are pretty cheap. We had Americans over not long ago - I am sure you can manage to visit the frozen north sometime.  ;D

If you watch MVACS video, the front display of his store advertises his website, dysonparts.com

We have dysonspares.com and quite a few others as well, collected over the years. More to stop other people having them than anything. None were especially cheap, and one was cannily registered in Russia by a Russian web guy, but after some Cyrillic searching, we found the guys number, and Olga called him up and did the deal, in Roubles, in the lingua franca.

So, what we have achieved in a couple of days is nothing short of miraculous. We are in and pretty much organised. Late this afternoon everything was looking quite sorted. People are rolling in with service work already. The coffee machine is working (:coffee:), there were floors being mopped and frantic Seboing going on (is that a new Verb?) late this afternoon. Not to mention flowers being arranged. The florist a few doors up (http://www.alisflorist.co.uk/) even donated some red ribbon for the grand opening. We are fortunate that we have such a great team; Claire didn't miss a beat and the internet orders continued as normal through the move. David organised the parts stores like a bloke who does this all the time; how it should have been from day one, probably. Olga has arranged the internet fulfillment counter, Carl at M60 Removals (https://twitter.com/M60Removals) did us proud with the move.

The local radio station has been plugging us all day (https://manchestervacs.co.uk/dysonimages/tamesideradiopromotion.m4a) right after the news.

A bloke I used to know had a plaque on his desk with simply PPPPP on it. It stood for Perfect Planning Prevents Pathetic Performance. It stuck with me. We planned well, and everything has gone to plan. Because of proper people. :king:

So tomorrow we can relax a little. We have our opening party. The legendary north west broadcasting icon Gordon Burns is in the house, and Tameside Radio are doing a live broadcast from 10am (http://player.insidetameside.com/).

See you there or you can listen online >>here<< (http://player.insidetameside.com/).  :thumbsup:

I know what it's like moving a business. We had to close our shop when the lease was up as they wanted more money. Right at the time when everything was shutting because of the economic downturn. We could have managed a smaller increase but there was the stupid service charge too. That went up yearly regardless of the rent. At the end of our lease, the service charge was nearly half the rent!

What you have achieved in a couple of days is absolutely marvelous. To do that and keep your internet orders going out is fantastic. I am sure you will be going from strength to strength.

Well done everybody! I wish I could be there for the opening but we have just taken a lease on another shop and I have to get things ready there.

The radio folks have most of the best photos which I will get later.

But as Gordon happened to have a DC24 that it turned out needed a brushroll motor, I said fetch it along while you are coming. Our chap fixed it while Gordon chillaxed in the workshop.

[attachimg=1]

Then people started arriving......

[attachimg=2]

Not quite sure what is going on here; they were filming this as part of a promo video we are having done.

[attachimg=3]

A lesser spotted Claire being interviewed on the radio and filmed simultaneously. I threw her in at the deep end here, but as she speaks so nicely, she is perfect for radio.

[attachimg=4]

One of our new helpers, Olyessa. Who also - like Olga - has a foxy Russian accent.

A group shot with David our main tech, me, Olga, Claire, Olyessa and the chaps from the radio station.

A bloke I used to know had a plaque on his desk with simply PPPPP on it. It stood for Perfect Planning Prevents Pathetic Performance. It stuck with me. We planned well, and everything has gone to plan. Because of proper people. :king:

I've always known it as the 6 P's....Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance  :))

Just wishing you and your team well. I saw the link on the radio website and emailed them. I heard the guy read it out before I had to leave too.

So I am starting to get some photos through from the media and radio people of our opening.

They asked for the oldest and most valuable machine next to the most expensive new one in a group shot. Well, that means the Dyson prototype Rotork next to a brand new Sebo X4 Pet. Then they asked two seven year old girls to hold them!  :o

So I am not at all worried about two seven year old girls and a couple of other people having £2k's worth of machines on a pavement outside........

Especially when the photographer says to the two girls, "lean them back like you are vacuuming". With a 1984 ultra-rare Rotork Kleeneze Dyson prototype! For clarity, one of these is in the Zanussi museum in Italy and one in the Design Museum in London of only about 500 made - most of which are lost.

Can imagine the headlines in the local rag if the little girl had dropped the rotork backwards now...

At least they didnt want you to get the dc03 clear out on the scratchy pavement!

Did you sell any machines on opening day? Any beweildered old dears come in for a belt and wonder wtf they walked into?

Bloke on the left [in the dark coat] was trying to snuggle up to Olyessa all day. Without much success I might add.  :chuckle:

I managed to keep that in the cabinet.......

We moved a few machines, and a few spares. One woman ran out with a DC14 giggling, "How cool is this? He bought me a Dyson and I got a selfie with Gordon Burns!"

I like this one. Three blondes and a celeb. Not a shabby Saturday as they go.  :king:
