Wish someone would bring one out to Texas :'(
-
You and me both! I do have a dc02 though....
-
We'll happily send a DC01 to the US. As it happens, I do have a spare fixed soleplate one that is very tidy.
Naturally, the shipping isnt cheap, but it is what it is.
-
I have to go back to australia for a wedding next year so I will look there and bring me back one on the plane, or a dc04. If that doesnt work I will eventually order one from mvacs, or would like to trade with someone a machine from here, I see dc17s and 28s all the time.
-
I want a nice Dc18 and 18! Not sure about posting dc01's and 04's yet tho
-
I'll probably order one from Mvacs at some point. It would just be nice if one popped up in a local charity shop! Even if I would have to fight taran57 for it...... ;D

Very rare to see any dyson in a charity shop here. Always lines of bissels though :(

Very very true

Is it one with the old style dyson typeface?

I believe so, I'll post a photo later today.

So here is the one that has been in my "waiting for the museum" corner that hasn't made it as we have the almost identical machine there already. It came as part of a collection "as is".

Its an early fixed soleplate model. We'll give it a fettle and service to make sure it's right before it goes. But that doesn't mean a full cosmetic restoration.
I'd want £75 clear for it, so with packaging, Paypal fees and shipping, I doubt someone would see much change out of $200-$250 by the time it's in the US of A.
If anyone is seriously interested, shoot me a PM and I'll do "the math" as you guys say.
-
Damn that is a tidy machine! Im not bothered about a dirty machine, restoring is half the fun, but if I am going to be spending 200+ I have to have some due diligence, machine must not have broken/cracked parts or faded/yellowed plastic. But stuff like fixing belts, strip down and clean and finding missing tools isnt a problem
-
My mind says yes but the finances say no. Have fun with it taran57.
Mvacs, if another earlier one like this comes along (in similar condition) I would be interested.

All yours mate.
Im flat skinned.

Are you sure?
-
Are you sure?
Yes sir!
I still have a dc15 and 07 to play with for now. And a dc16
-
Well I think I might have a chat with Mvacs in the morning then, I might be able to swing it. Thanks! If you ever need help tracking down a machine or need any particular spares let me know, I am rather close and would be glad to help.

You will have to let me come and look at it ;)
I am also after some dc07 spares

That's a bloody clean early 01! One I want, but I've not got £75!

It will be on its way to Texas next week. :-X
-
Wish it was coming to my door :(
-
I'll update this when it arrives. Anyone know a good way of keeping these from going yellow?
-
Keep in a dark room with a vampire bat and a witch :biglaugh:
-
Fresh out of bats and witches I'm afraid :))
-
Interesting science as to why abs plastic yellows and how to reverse it.
-
Well it's on the way, according to the tracking it departed a facility tomorrow :)), the time difference sure is interesting. Only thing is I need to get a transformer now!

We all like to know how you can afford it.
I cant even afford to buy a 20 bob DC07 of CL. :(
-

Don't you guys have 220 outlets in the kitchen or utility room someplace for ovens or dryers?

Yes but the plugs are four prong and the size of your hand, doubt they make adapters.

Make your own, your oversized 4 prong (whats the 4th prong for?) plug UK 13 or 16 amp cable and a UK 13 amp socket.
-
I had considered this, it's what the man I bought my dc02 from had done. The outlet is for electric clothes dryers, which is my problem because ours is practically inaccessible. It isn't near any rugs either! I may still do that as transformers are :o
-
big long extension lead
-
Going to be one hell of a lead
-
semi permanent into the living room etc :whist11:
-
Always fancied fitting a 12v and 5v dc supply in the house.
-

Will the dc01's performance be that amazing? :))
-
its not bad, just a thought, our supply is 50hz your 110 is 60hz what is your 220? and what is the 4th prong for?
-
I looked it up and apparently we have 2 live wires for some reason, then a neutral and a ground. And I think our 220v is 60Hz
-

As I recall, one is earth, one is neutral, one is 120v and one is 220v. Don't ask me why the 120 is there though as I have no idea. One of our pals over the pond will clarify I am sure.
-
Afraid I'm not very experienced with 220v outlets :boggleeye:
-
I'm just wondering if the motor will be ok at 60hz? Seems daft having 2 voltages but then most stuff now runs at much lower dc so why not supply that direct to home?
-
The 50 and 60 Hz may be an issue. I was just Googling..........
50Hz motor will run 20% faster on 60Hz power supply
AC motor kilowatt is proportional to Torque times RPM. As the motor's torque is not going to change significantly with the increase of frequency, it will now output 20% more power. A 10kW 50Hz motor will be a 12kW motor on 60Hz power source.
Making a 20 year old YDK DC01 motor run 20% faster? An Ametek maybe as they are built like the Ark Royal, but I am not fancying the chances of a YDK running very long. :snivel:
Sounds like a frequency converter may be needed. Not to mention a UK socket wired the right way from the outlet plug with the live through the fuse.
I could have put a UK socket in there as well if we'd have had this discussion a few days ago.
-
I know the man I bought the dc02 from had a number of other British dysons and regularly ran them at half speed on a 120v 60hz line, and he's never had a problem. This is one reason however that I would feel a bit better with a proper transformer, don't want the house to get filled with dc01 smoke.
-
In that case I would bite the bullet and get a transformer better safe than sorry.
-
Yep looks like I'll need a transformer :(
The one I was looking at can output 220v at 50 or 60 hz apparently
-
Yes you defiantly need one you can drop to 50hz
-
Hmmmm the one I was looking at apparently can't drop the frequency, only work with either 50 or 60hz
-
hmm, I'm sure there is a way to drop the frequency.
-
I found a way but it costs :o :o :o :o
-
You could always rebuild the motor with new bearings or re pack them with grease and risk it
-
That is a scary prospect, I've never even seen a dc01 before. Stripping it would be a stretch, but I might. I'll figure something out
-
The 110v runs the control and motor and the 220v runs the heating element.
-
Ah that makes sense, thanks

If I were you id use a proper power supply.

The first is unlikely, the second could happen :-\

Awesome! What's the Penncrest about? bung a thread up, is it like a UK Hoover Senior?

Lol I wondered if someone might notice that, it is indeed a hoover senior private labeled for a retailer (JCpenny).
I have to say about the dc01, I am amazed dyson took off with this thing. I can't believe how crappy wimpy the brushbar is!
Still, very very glad to have it. The machine to the left of the 01 is the amway they made with Dyson's tech.......but without permission.
-
The (sc) amway? :underchair:
