I've always had a thing for Dysons. Used to buy a new one every year or so when they first came out as i was amazed by the design and always wanted the newest model. That was until l bought my DC14 Blitz it. I've had it for years and can't bear to replace it but it's getting to the age where things are needing done to it. That's how i found this site.
It's great. I wasn't aware that there is such a large community of people who are into these machines. I came on here to lurk about and find out a few things and now l'm thinking of getting a couple of battered old Dysons to see what lcan do. There is so much knowledge on this site.
Think this is the start of a new hobby for me. Anybody got any tips on where to find old machines locally and which ones are the easiest for me to start on?

Hi, welcome! I have a huge passion for Dyson as well :) and I am sure you will love this site
I would say the earlier Dysons are easier to work on than the later models (especially the ball models which are complex) so if something goes wrong like the motor in a DC41 for example, it's a bit of a pain
A DC01 for example is very easy to access the motor, remove the soleplate, cleaner head unclips and 6 screws removes the motor cover, it's dead simple . I get my Dysons usually from Carboot sales, gumtree, ebay, used dudley/walsall, etc
PS I'm not surprised you kept the DC14 blitz it, that is a really good vacuum! DC14's are my favourite machines, they got replaced with a DC33 which is basically a DC14 with two washable filters, a plastic wand and new tools/ other parts

We still have a DC14 at home too. It got treated to a refurb a while back, new motor, flex and the general treatment.

Welcome! I refurbish and repair dysons locally for beer money, it's great. Facebook is a good source, on the local selling sites. Plus ebay, car boots, gumtree etc.
I refurbish more than I buy and sell now, which works for me.
The DC14 is ace, I got given one a week or so ago, in filthy condition but with the instructions, all tools and a big bag of optional tools, which once refurbished should sell for a pretty penny! Must get on that at the weekend

Cool :thumbsup: Last time I went to the carboot (2 weeks ago) I got a perfectly working DC14 blitz it for £5, all it needed was the changeover valve put in place which I fixed in 2 secs :)) lol
needed a good clean as well

That sounds about right... a nutter. Bought two DC07s in turquoise at the bootsale on Sunday for £10. One of them has a blown motor and a cracked soleplate. The other one has a blocked cyclone. Going to get them stripped today and see what other problems i find. Hopefully i can make one good one out of the two and start a collection of spares with the rest. Fingers crossed.

Or fix them both. Motor and baseplate should see you with change from £20 if done right! New post filters and internal hoses for both would be £25ish, wash the pre filter and hopefully they came with all the tools
