Hi,
When refitting the thermal cut out in a 1996 DC02, I'm unsure of where to fit it correctly. The only post that gives instructions makes me think that it might be located as in the following pictures. Is this the correct placement?

That looks right, you can see the mouldings on the shell that correspond with the little tabs on the thermal cutout.
As it is facing now, with the 'arrow' pointing towards the chassis it should fit into the moulding, the two mouldings should click together and it will rest home. Check there's nowhere the cable needs to be tucked through anywhere and voila!

This picture of the placement of the thermal cut out switch on a DC02 is incorrect. It's upside down and the cases will then not fit together correctly (gives about a 4mm gap).
Correct pic is below. Note that the switch top (the O hole) is level with the 'stopping' bit of plastic just above it.

Can't quite work out if the chap above's picture shows the TOC upside down or not tbh, I think I can see the strip of metal that 'blows', but it could be the underside, it's been a while since I've seen one in the flesh
I think the OP fitted it correctly after taking the picture, he was just checking it did go in there. The little tabs on the one in your picture are broken. Do you find it moves about as you fit the top housing etc or does it still fit fine?

Thanks zytel! I gave up and bought a nilfisk, I can't remember if it was tried 'upside down', but from memory everything didn't go back together, so maybe not. I think the dyson is still around somewhere. It may be worth having another look at it again.

Hi all.
If you click on my photo (Reply #4) to see it full size, you will clearly see the orientation of the thermal cut out (TCO) switch as it should be.
In particular, the top of the TCO by the 'O' piece is level with the 'stop' piece of plastic behind it. If you (incorrectly) reverse it, the TCO sits about 4mm higher and stops the reassembly from mating correctly. Also, if you don't have the TCO, the 'stop' bit does the same job. Clearly, the TCO needs to be level with the 'stop' bit to work. And yes, I've micrometered all this.
I know it's more 'obvious' to fit the TCO upside down (it was to me). AND, when the 5 torx screws are back in - flexing the casings - you can't see this 4mm gap since it's hidden behind the wheels.
It looks ok - but it's wrong!!
It took me ages to work this one out!!!!!!!
