Title: My first Sebo X4 Extra! (broken, of course!)
Post by: beko1987 on May 08, 2017, 02:07:30 pm
I saw this on ebay the other day, and after messaging the seller to ask if lunchtime collection would be do-able were I to bid and win, she replied and said if I paypal her £10 she'll end the auction and I could collect monday lunchtime

So I did!

It's quite battered

Has a brand new genuine bag fitted

The wand is split down the middle and it's missing the upholstery tool

but more importantly, it doesn't work! It's dead Jim. I knew this of course, so when I got back to mums I checked the fuse, which is fine, then cut a few inches off the top of the cable and re-wired it. Still dead...

Tomorrow, I'll bring a known working cable with me (as it's cable is a bit battered and taped up) and try that. I've re-seated the handle and main body, and still nothing. I can't smell burning around the motor housing/post motor filter so don't think the motor has burnt out, are there any other common failure points on an X4?

For it to be completely dead the flex is the likely issue. Sometimes where the handle goes on the body they can split a bit necessitating a well-placed self tapper, and check the terminals where the body unclips from the base. But that is usually only when they have been really hammered like in a hotel or such will you see the latter two issues. 9/10 we have in that are dead are the flex.

I spose till you strip it down with a meter handy we wont know.  ;D

Everything else looks fine, apart from the flex tbh. I'll have another go tomorrow lunchtime (or later tonight if I get lucky but I have a DC07 I really must get back together).

Steve mentioned the body terminals to me as well. I glanced at them and they did not look cremated, but I presume the damage will be internal. The struggle I had getting it off I don't think it's been off since it came out of the box!

Either way, for a tenner I can't loose, even if all else fails you can have it for a tenner and a postage label! If it works I might tap you up for some parts!

If you ditch it I'll take some parts from it and give you profit - no need to send the whole thing.

It works! I bought a vax 6131 for cheap the other week and it was too far gone to bother with (shame, as it was cosmetically mint) so I broke it for spares. Handily, the grey 2 core flex is a perfect match for the x4!

Ill film my usual first look video tomorrow, and pop a link up when it's live! It all works fine too. That awful filter is putting the check bag light on though, and the brushroll light came on a bit but the brushroll is very smeggy, and I had it on a rubber mat and it may not have liked that

Huzzah, the collection and first look video is live!

Im also dailying it this week as the dc40 is at my mums awaiting dyson coming to fix it (I lied and said it was hers, so thought it best she have it for a few days and be able to actually turn it on!)

The x4 is lovely, it grooms quite nicely, is easy to use and doing a sterling job! Brushroll light keeps coming on though, so I think a new one of those is in order, and the air leaks are awful!

Loved the vid, I was expecting a knock on the door, I don't usually trust leaving things outside incase they get nicked lol
I've been dailying mine before I got my new DC41 and it was pretty good with the hack

The brush light comes on when it's either jammed or just spinning so freely with hardly much contact with the carpet itself, so the short bristles are likely the cause imho
