This thread shall henceforth be where we put the links to the 'F*ck me what were they thinking' for sale ads I'm sure we all see and laugh at!
Mainly because I've just seen this 'bargain' local to me...

Nice and I know they done a clutch less but clutch ? I haven't a clue
-
That's the silver/turquoise DC07 All Floors footplate. It doesn't look so obvious in the photos but I bet close up the turquoise looks quite different to the DC04 light blue

What Russ said. :icon_nod:
We have built those in the past though - they are passable.

£45 *snip* quid for a buggered DC04???
Styoopid Cowww!!! ...As Kenny Everett would have said!
-
I'd pay £8-10 MAX for that! Crevice tool is from an 05, ugly cable and plug too.
I would only pay that much for a nice mint DC25 with all tools and clean
-
:o
Optimisticly priced!
-
you guys are missing a bargain it has anew cable and hose click now before someone beats you to it lol
thank not even public area that mad ,I would not even pay a £5
-
Yup ^ It's an early model too so has the fragile plastics
-
Who remembers Kenny Everett? Thursday night, 8 0'clock, late 1970's/early 80''s?
-
I remember cleo rocos lol ,in the best possible taste
-
Those dc04s are my favourite though tbh. If they didn't sell so easily I'd keep one in the loft. Deffo wouldn't pay over a tenner for it though!
-
Talk about making a good one out of several
-
Never seen this colour combo ?
-
That colour dc04 started life as a Marie curie special edition, then they just carried the run on without the branding I think
I had a lovely Marie curie with all the paperwork. Sold itthough
-
How do you know the difference?
-
There was a Marie curie logo and writing on the cleaner head. My one is in a thread someone in the dc04 section
-
So like the CLIC logo on cleaner head ? And I'll see if I can dig it up
-
Yea, exactly that. And some rubbish kids drawing and donation form in the paperwork
-
Talk about making a good one out of several
I do that, but never at that price.
-
I remember cleo rocos lol ,in the best possible taste
that was Cupid Stunt.
Cleo Rocos was a real person that appeared in the show.
I loved The Kenny Everett Show.

I'd want that for that now. Consider the guy does them properly (BB is a proper place - they do what they do well), and he has to pay eBay fees, Paypal fees and VAT. For a nice one it has to be that much. He will be netting £20-£30 from that max.
People who like them will pay it. His 6k feedback will encourage them.

I must go visit them one day when I go back to Peterborough. My mum was born in Holbeach, many happy memories of going to see granny and Grandad there!

Oooh that must make mine worth £250 when I fit the new changeover bit!

Russ is spot on! I was already laughing at the price and nearly died laughing at the description :P I would expect atleast a paragraph of a description for a £10 vacuum!

I would expect not.
But like anything, paying cash, collecting and not burdening them with 11-13% in seller fees has to knock a shilling or two off.
Third party platforms are expensive to use. The costs of using them have to be passed along.
LOL @ the £200 DC18. I'd be reluctant to give a tenner for that.

Must get my 03 up for sale! :o
-
Lol that's optimistic!
-
Lmao! :)) I hope they mean £30!
-
Dammit! Anyone remeber that 03 I found, does that mean its worth about £200
-
Not too bad price wise (for the parts), but this is a:
DC01 Arctic Solo
DC01 De Stijl filter flap
DC01 Ab+ cyclone
DC01 Ab+ or De Stijl chassis
DC01 Standard cord and hose

50 quid for the pair. "bargain"
-
I'd stretch to fifteen quid for the pair.
-
I'd stretch to fifteen quid for the pair.
now we are cooking on gas :))
-
I'd do £20. Green 04's seem to fly off for £40 and you never know, the purple one may be ok for stripping for hose/wand/motor/bottom hose, etc... there's another £30!
£50 profit at least on £20 outlay.
I keep clutchless 04's to sell and strip the clutched ones now (apart from one or two) if they are very tidy
There is still money to be made in DC04's!
-
£50 profit at least on £20 outlay.
I beg to differ.
£50 gross profit, perhaps. But how many hours (even at minimum wage) to refurb them? Pay yourself those wages from the GP. Then sell yourself any parts you put in (even if you got them free on another machine they have a value). Subtract any chemicals and materials. After that you have a net profit. And THAT is the profit. The other expenses are parts and wages.
It may be you work for wages (we all do it on some stuff). And that is alright too as money is money.
But I just wanted to put the idea out there for others.......
I'd pay £15 for those, and here is why. The purple one would be broke for any parts making the other one free. The green one would be refurbed and sold for £75. But from that £75 would come parts, wages, overheads, VAT, electricity, etc. If it breaks in 6 months we fix it for free under the guarantee. I'd expect a net profit of circa £20 after taxes and expenses in my back pocket free and clear.
You would sell one @ £40, break the other for £30. Minus the £20 you paid, 4 hours stripping one and minting the other @ minimum wage leaves you with £22. Lose the two quid on chemicals and bits and you have the same net profit of £20.
I think its important to separate wages from profit. It may be you make the wages doing something you like while watching Eastenders. That doesn't matter, you should still pay yourself wages from the job. If there is no profit after wages, it matters less if you are doing the work yourself. You had wages you didn't have before.
But the aim should be net profit on top of wages. We can call that profit, the rest we call wages.
Anal? Maybe. I went to business school, what can I say? :chuckle:
-
£15 quid kiddies!

High five Sleaford White! We both purchased DC33's on the same day :))
I saw your one earlier! lol

-
Oooooh! Did you go out for a pub lunch???? Me hearty?
-
Nope lol :P
-
Much ponderings
And this is why I don't get too deep in the figures! As long as I make more than I spend, it's ok in my book.
Plus the man maths keeps Amy happy. If she knew I only actually made £5 once my labour rate is taken into account, she would not be as happy with me doing it. However, me pressing £70/80 into her hand and telling her to go shopping is met with much positiveness!
I'd be shit at running a shop
-
I couldn't ignore this bad boy!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dyson-DC01-/111903950524?
And look where it is!
-
That looks good
-
Lovely! I bet it's either the soleplate or filters that are blocked ;D
-
Yeah. Obviously it will get new filters as part of the refurb but I expect it's arse end to be full of shite.
-
Lol I have never seen one without a half blocked soleplate atleast
-
At that price you can't go much wrong! And add in the local location, even better. An all round good buy. Well done. I can never find anything local on fleabay. I think they must take them to the household recycling centre (tip) as they now call it. They won't let you have anything.
-
Funnily enough Sid, I was at Sleaford tip yesterday and couldn't resist having a glance in the "small appliances" skip. There was a DC07 and DC04 there. I looked around and there was a bloody camera pointing straight at me!
I really can't understand why they won't let you take stuff. They used to and I believe some councils still let you.
The amount of prams I've taken to build "bogies" for my lad when he was a nipper!
-
I hate going to the tip, as I always feel sad when I look in the electrical skip. Saw an AEG with electro hose once, and a DC05 Motorhead, as well as usual dc07's/14's etc that I know would make good money!
May explain why our back garden looks like a scrapyard, I really need to go soon!
-
My DC05 motorhead is crap, needs a new everything :| When working fine it cant really seal suction onto carpets well, but its an okayish vacuum, a DC04 with clutch works better IMHO
-
They told me that the council have a contract with the scrap people and it all goes to them so they cannot let anyone have anything.
I have had people ask me for stuff, mostly garden things, when I have been there unloading my crap, before I throw it over the wall.
-

You know you want to :-X

Go on one more won't hurt :evilgrin0002:
There have been a lot of new or newish bargains lately. Each one I put on display costs me an extra £90 for the cabinet it sits in. We have six cabinets in the new place that will likely have two cylinders on top.
I reckon we still get the odd clean enough DC07 passing through to have a proper minter in better colours for less money.
-
But that's an early example in new condition ;)
-
But that's an early example in new condition ;)
Stop talking now please. :chuckle:
-
Quite rare you know, can see it gleaming in a case now ;D
-
I wanted it but I want it to be looked after! Stuart will look after it best
-
You know you want it, you have to save it. :innocent:
-
If you dont want it, then I hope the seller convinces himself to let me have it later on in the year! Will deffo not use it as a daily vacuum and bash it around :o That DC07 is from 2001 deffo, look at the cyclone seal! Looks diff ;D
-
I think I remember one of you guys having one of these to sell on, I think, was it you MAdrat? Yellow one and the fins were widened away from each other I believe and the gaskette was glued probs IIRC
-
That was me, fitted later type
-
Cool
I had 2 2001 model Dc07's in yellow and light grey, one of them had the round grey plug like a Dc01 plug style and the other was identical but with a square volex plug
Never have I ever had that type of cyclone
I had a 2002 blue and purple DC07 Allergy+ once, was a good vacuum and had the nice soleplate with no gaps for suction to leak out of! Grr wish I kept it, after early Dc07's now and a late origin cos it looks smartish
-
A quantity of Dyson accessories - being auctioned now.

These were at £7 at midday!

A couple of weeks ago I posted a thread about a blue DC01 for 99p.
This is what happened. ........
Hi
I really must apologise, I had planned on listing this and thought I had saved it to finish later. I obviously did something wrong.
It's fairly obvious that I wouldn't list it at a buy it now price of 99p. But as a gesture of goodwill I would be happy to let you have it at a reasonable price, I'm thinking it must be worth £20 if only for parts
What do you think??
Again I'm really sorryhttps://manchestervacs.co.uk/Dyson/dyson-old-new-tool-adaptor
-
There are aren't many left like me!... Jesus, Bob Geldof, etc.
As soon as he re-listed it I put a bid in for 99p as it is local.
-
Lol, id stick to 99p!
Tbh there was a really nice blue dc01 on ebay, but it was tpo far to go at lunchtime, and a bastard to get to after work (m4 london bound, no chance in rush hour!
If it gets relisted Ill see...
