The other day i was using the dc04 when it just stopped working, i would like some advice as what it could be. e.g motor , flex ,bushes there was no smell of burning it just cut out and wouldn't turn back on cheers in advance ;) ;) ;)

Can I ask you first if you have checked your pre-motor filter? If it is blocked, the machine can cut out.

thanks for the welcome , I've checked both filter's and they seem fine.don't want to be buying a new motor if i don't need one :'(

Was there any bubbling or popping noises before it expired?
It sounds more like the flex to me if not.

got a mate who's going to test the flex for me tomorrow so. i will report back. cheers :tiphat:

turned out to be the flex after all, my mate tested it for me at the weekend .it was either the plug end or the on off switch so i guessed it would be the plug so i chopped about 6inches off the plug end and fitted a new plug and bingo my dc04 is back up and running thanks for all your help ;) :thumbsup: ;)

The cable tends to break inside right where the moulded plug starts. That is more likely on cylinder machines where the plug suffers stress every time it is recoiled. On DC04's and other upright machines, the cable tends to typically deteriorate near where it enters the machine due to it flexing so much at that point.
