Title: Numatic Henry HVR200-12 - Stripdown and Refurb!
Post by: beko1987 on April 18, 2018, 10:14:17 pm
A while ago now, one of my youtube followers, who lives quite close to me offered me a scrap electrolux I needed for parts. So I wandered over one lunchtime, shook his hand, and took my loot.

Upon turning the car around to leave, I spied something familiar in the garden of an abandoned house. Ditching the car, I went in for a closer look, and came out with...

[attachimg=1]

A Henry! Poor thing was not happy

[attachimg=2]

And full of water, as I found out when I picked it up and got a soaking wet foot...

[attachimg=3]

He dates at week 3 2015

[attachimg=4]

So let's have a look at what we have. Turns out, after a week of drying out that he is dead. A repair of the switch and a new plug has him working fine!

Marvellous! So, one night I got the stuff ready for washing that could be washed

[attachimg=5]

The cracked hose cuff came off

[attachimg=6]

And went in the recycling

[attachimg=7]

I scraped the worst of the crap off the motor sound deadening

[attachimg=8]

Took one last look at the filter

And set the washing machine going

[attachimg=1]

Onto the main job

[attachimg=2]

After the initial vac out the bin still looked horrible, but it was dry now at least

[attachimg=3]

The hose port/his nose pulls off

[attachimg=4]

As does the 3d face

[attachimg=5]

I did try and get the front wheels off, but they didnt want to know. So I spent 15 minutes cutting the thread out that had wrapped around the castors

[attachimg=6]

The one wheel cap popped off

[attachimg=7]

And both rear wheels unscrewed and split

[attachimg=8]

Motor now

The outer shell comes off with the 4 outer screws

[attachimg=1]

And the cord reel lifts out

[attachimg=2]

Under the cord reel are the 3 screws that hold the top trim on

[attachimg=3]

With that off, we can see the cable terminals. Remove the screws and lift the cable and thermal cutout off as one!

[attachimg=4]

The winder knob pulls out (mainly for a drop of grease rather than cleaning)

[attachimg=5]

Now for the wiring. A cover covers this, and pops off easily

[attachimg=6]

Unplug everything and remove the switches

[attachimg=7]

The 3 inner screws underneath the main machine remove the motor assembly from the bottom chassis

[attachimg=8]

The clips that hold the 2 parts of the cleaner together can be removed

[attachimg=9]

Lamb motor

[attachimg=1]

Removed lamb motor

[attachimg=2]

The inner motor surround lifts out

[attachimg=3]

Making the cord reel contact slip rings easier to spot and remove. The contact rings push out with a careful prod with a screwdriver

[attachimg=4]

The PCB can be lifted out now

[attachimg=5]

Amazingly it is not dead, these blow and kill many henries.

[attachimg=6]

The wheels that help move the cord reel lift out

[attachimg=7]

All stripped down, I grabbed a box that Daniel Shanks (Numaticrule29) sent me

[attachimg=8]

Which contained a Handle!

[attachimg=9]

Which was excellent, as I needed one of those!

I needed some small tools, so the shed was perused, and I came out with this mismatched bunch!

[attachimg=1]

Popped the dusting brush apart for washing

[attachimg=2]

I also found a wand set lying around

[attachimg=3]

With that done, everything was washed, dried and polished

[attachimg=4]

The rear wheels went back on the bin, although without the one end cap because finding one in blue proved impossible, and it looked OK to the average punter with a matched set of not there at all!

[attachimg=5]

The bag holder and hose thread went on

[attachimg=6]

On with the face and the base is done!

[attachimg=7]

Up top, in goes the PCB first

[attachimg=8]

Then on go the contact slip rings and wires

The mounts go on the motor, then the motor sits in the housing

[attachimg=1]

The diffuser/sound muffler came up like new and no longer stunk like death, which was nice

[attachimg=2]

Pop that around the edge of the cover, then slip that over the motor. Then fit the fancase seal.

[attachimg=3]

Fit the clips to the base

[attachimg=4]

Then pop the base onto the upturned motor assembly, do up the screws and flip it around

[attachimg=5]

Refit the switches and wire as appropriate. If you are going a PCB delete, just wire the 2 white motor wires to one side of the mains switch, and the live and neutral from the cord reel to the other side of the mains switch.

[attachimg=6]

Fit the cover

[attachimg=7]

Pop the white wheels in with a crop of grease on the axles

[attachimg=8]

Up in the cord reel, refit the mains wire and run the cable through the cable run. The bends from before should just line up

[attachimg=9]

Refit the top cover (it only goes on one way round), then drop the cable reel into the hood (also, at the point make sure the cable exit guide is fitted to the cable, and is the correct way round...)

[attachimg=1]

Drop the outer hood on

[attachimg=2]

Fit the handle

[attachimg=3]

Wind the cable up

[attachimg=4]

Marry the 2 halves together

[attachimg=5]

Small clean tools

[attachimg=6]

And the refurb is done! How did it come out?

Not too bad! And off this one picture and a small ad on facebook

[attachimg=7]

He sold for £60 in about 40 minutes. Not too shabby, 14/10, would steal from an abandoned house again!

Still quality machines, repaired one tues night, switch and brushes.

Never really changed the design principle have they, thus still successful.

No shame in raking about in gardens or skips for me - amazing what folk throw away.
