Hi,
I have cleaned out my Dyson DCO7 (standard) which was badly blocked. Removed the cyclone head and flushed out the flutes with water, replaced the motor and the two filters and although everything appears clear now, the suction before the cyclone seems a bit better than after it, the machine is not picking like it should do. The motor is also cutting out after five minutes of use and I know this points to a blockage in the cyclone but I cannot find the blockage. Can anyone tell me if I am missing anything, or what to do next. :'(

It sounds like the cyclone is blocked. What you need to do is take off the top of the cyclone (be sure the bottom flap is open when you do) with the three torx screws that secure it. Remove it and the push rod, and hot pressure wash down the seven internal flutes and anywhere else you can find. Rinsing is no good, you need heat and pressure.
The photos below shows you the cyclone top coming off and the view from the top (what you need to pressure clean) when it is removed.

The arrow in the bottom picture shows the locating hole for the push rod when you reassemble.

thanks very much for your reply and help. I have had the cyclone top off but I only flushed it through using tap water pressure. I will borrow a jet washer and see if that will clear it. Thanks again.

Look down those little flutes when you do; you will likely find them clogged up. They must be clear and free. Also get in the side air entrance/exits and get everywhere you can. Dry it off on a radiator before you run it as well.
Give me a holler if I can be of any more help and/or if you get it working right. If its still playing up after you have done that we'll run through some other stuff.

sorry for late reply, I have been away for a few days (unexpectedly). I did what you advised and jetted the cyclone through, the machine is now definately working better and is not cutting out as before, there is also more movement in the bin. However, although the suction has improved, I am still doubting that it is as strong as it should be. (I have an old Dyson DC04 and the suction on this is stronger than the DC07). I renewed the internal hose when I renewed the filters and motor so I can't figure out why the suction is'nt as good. :tiphat:
I would be grateful if you have any more advice on this.

You say the suction isn't as it should be - does this include through the wand too or just at the bottom?

If that's the case, is the suction still good if you remove the side valve (left hand side from font), turn the Dyson on and put your hand over the hole?
If so, the problem is downwards from here and may be one of the below:
- You said you've replaced the internal hose - if this isn't creating a good seal the suction will suffer. Is it a good tight fit and screwed on the brushbar housing properly. Equally is there a positive click when you push the other end of the hose onto the body?
- Is the soleplate securely fastened? you need to make sure the 3 'lugs' on the front are in position and then turn the 3 fasteners to securely lock it in place.
- Is the belt that turns the brushbar good and tight? If this has slackened off the brushbar won't pick up the dirt off the floor so well. It should almost be a struggle to get the belt over the brushbar if it's nice and tight

thanks a lot for you interest. I fitted a spare belt, which I had and the machine is working a hell of a lot better now. The only thing is that I don't think the suction is as good as my old DC04 (as I have mentioned before). One other thing is that filter seems to be collecting a lot of dust very quickly, over about one week of using it. We only have a stair carpet and a couple of large mats (10ft x 7ft), the rest of the house has laminate flooring, so its very light use really. I clean the filters on my DC04 every 6 months and they are never heavily clogged but I honestly think that doing the same work with the DC07 the filter would need cleaning every couple of weeks or so. I know this is what the filter is supposed to do but is it possible there is a fault somewhere, allowing too much dust to get through to the filter instead of collecting the bin. Hope you can make sense of all this.
