Title: Airblade AB01 Fault
Post by: DannyBoy on January 29, 2018, 07:56:20 PM
Hi There,

Wondering if anyone can give me a clue regards an AB01 I've playing up?
Not working at all stripped it down expecting blocked filter and blown Motor Board but no scorching whatsoever on Motor PCB and Main PCB, don't know any voltages or resistances to check so really have hit a stop there, but I've had the AB01 in our Hair Salon from new and its pristine aesthetically. I know that doesn't make any difference when its not working but its just to highlight low traffic and well looked after so something internally has popped but with no evidence.
Guess the question is which bit would you start with under these circumstances, currently contemplating a AB01 donor appliance if I can find one then I can identify the fault and repair the donor so I'm ready for future breakdowns?

Thanks in advance Danny (Post 1 Newbie)

I'd be looking at the sensors first. When one side breaks you dont notice as you put two hands in together and a single working side will trigger the machine. When the second one goes, the machine stops.

That said, motor bucket PCBs dont always show signs of burning when they are gone. They usually burn up around one of the aluminium towers on the board if you'll see it.

The problem folk have with these is there is no test data published so nobody knows what to test. It's easy when you have spares as you say: swap one sensor over to see if it's that, then a PCB, then wire the 2nd motor in parallel, etc. Just swap components one by one.

One reason we made most Airblade parts non-returnable was people were buying a bunch of them, seeing what worked, and then returning what they didn't need. Nice for them but a pain for us.

Buying a donor machine is a good idea. It's the fastest way to fix it, and as you say, you'll have spares for if it conks out again.

Thanks for the advice, I think Dyson are out of order keeping everything so in house, great machines but technical info should be available on any product you purchase out right in my opinion. Fair enough if you never own it and it remains their property then you have the right to with hold information to stop people tampering.

Anyway Thanks again, I'll look to a donor and see where I get

If you find a donor feel free to ask then if you need anything.

Will do thanks again, I take it you stock more spares for AB01 than are listed on your site? Couldn't find AB01 Sensors just AB03 and it says they're not compatible?

I'd need to check the compatibility with our engineer. Yes, we always have more than is on the site but with Airblades, never everything as Dyson are so difficult with supply.

I've managed to acquire a working AB03 as a donor for my AB01, if you could let me know if the sensors are compatible or not as if not I'll get a set to be on the safe side then hopefully I'm set for the next few years!

Really well ran forum by the way good job!

Hello there. Our Engineers have confirmed that the sensors are compatible.  ;)  You just need to remove the plastic holder that holds the LED in.
