Title: Dyson Geeks Fix My DC31
Post by: RustySkull on March 14, 2016, 09:16:05 PM
Right all you Dyson geeks, can you help me fix my DC31 please?

I've had it many years and it's lovely, but for ages, I can't even remember how long now it's never liked the 65AW button on the back.
When I press that it goes into super dooper mode for about 2 seconds, then stops and does the same again if you press the trigger again. But in un super dooper mode it's fine and will not stop until the battery dies. Which it about 15-20mins solid sucking.

So, what's up? Dudes?  8)

I would say the battery is cabbaged.

Even though it lasts a good 15mins on slow mode?

Is that the one with a dual output voltage charger?

Ummm that I don't know lol. It's just a plug that plugs into the battery itself.
How would I know the difference? When I get back I'll inspect the charger lol.

I think that is the dual output one. Check if the inner contacts both give off readings when you check them with a meter. We have seen a lot lately where one gives a reading and one doesn't. The info on the plug will tell you what the voltages should be.

Ahhh so it's possibly the charger that's the issue? I'll inspect that ;)

Cheers dude!

I still suspect the battery, but gotta start with the charger.

Hand helds are really time consuming to diagnose properly.

I happen to have some chargers at I think 17 in case of need.

I second the battery as the main suspect. I seen quite a few that do the same as you describe - when I pop on a new battery it solves the problem.

The 65AW mode draws a lot more power from the battery - 70% more suction according to the Dyson gumpf so assume this is why it dies so much quicker.

Easy enough to test the charger first though as MVacs say
