It sounds like a new motor unit is needed. Not many internal parts are available for those.

Is there not a pcb hack with these and a blob of solder? Or is that the older handhelds?

Shame it wasnt the battery,  thats normally the easy fix!

I've never seen anyone get into a handheld motor. I've tried on my DC16 and gave up. Never seen ANY individual spares for one either, it's the whole motor unit or nothing.

The PCB fix looks to be for the DC16, so possibly of no use for you I'm afraid but http://www.is-beer-a-vegetable.com/wiki/index.php/Dyson_CD16_Handheld_vacuum-_cuts_out_after_a_few_seconds anyway!

Not sure what else to suggest tbh, that beep must mean something, but unless anyones got access to a service manual for one I have no idea!

Good luck! Looked for working motor units on ebay?
