Dc24 changeover valve keeps sticking
« on: October 11, 2015, 06:10:55 PM »
Hi in my possession I have two dc24s and they both have the same problem. The changeover valve keeps sticking whenever the wand is released. The wheel doesn't look worn at all. However, if you remove the hose then the valve operates perfectly. I have tried cleaning the components and refitting, silicone based lubricant but to no avail.
Anyone got any ideas on how to remedy this?
Cheers Chris

Most of the ones I have seen do this, I spray with silicon but as you have found out it doesn't always work.  :grinn:

Do you think it is worth replacing the valve wheel with a new one? They don't appear to be worn.

I personally wouldn't bother, when you pull the wand up just tap the flap with your foot and it will operate.

You tried backing the screw that holds it together out by a quarter turn,  then maybe a drop of oil to help it along?

I know the cure;
1) Behind the bin, there's the clear part held on by a small screw, un-screw that and the clear thing will pop off with the plastic arm. The plastic arm slides into the groove of the clear part.
2) Make sure the groove is all clean and lubricated, it should work perfectly after this.
DC14s are tanks, just need a slightly longer motor life. Do plastic parts often break on DC14s? Nope. DC41- Sexy looking futuristic and powerful machine. Just needs a better designed cleaner head wheel and cyclone clip along with a dense metal rod in the chassis.

I will remember that (probably not) for the next dc24.
