Author Topic: Dyson dc16 flashing red whilst charging (Read 12678 times)

So i got this hoover off a customer i worked for. And she said it just needed a new battery.
So i bought this off ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291414129500?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
The hoover worked when the battery came for abit and when it died and i tried to charge it. It wont charge.
The light stays solid for about 10 seconds and then starts flashing.
The internet says its the battery thats outside it temperature range. but it does the same even when its stone cold.
Any little fixes you guys know about?

I can solder to a point. But i thought that the Hall-Effect switch fix was for cutting out when the hoover is in use?

The solder technique has worked with me 8/1 just double check with another battery first

Took off the chip and bridged the gap and its still them same. Im thinking its gonna have to get binned

Have you checked there is a DC voltage coming out of the charger? If you plug the charger into the mains and check the contacts with a multi meter.

It might not be charging the battery...

Yeah checked the volts coming out the charger and they are around 28 so i think the chargers fine.
Going to speak to the guy i got the battery off on ebay as it was damaged in transit so i will see if it can be replaced.

DC16's have a common issue with batteries. Before ordering a new battery, try cleaning the metal contacts of the battery and the contacts in the vacuum. I would say something like a cotton bud is best. It might look clean but there might be anything like rust or dirt insulating the circuit

yeah was a pain in the arse they can be my uncle had one but took a men-ti

with it and that was that. it ran for 3 or 4 seconds and switched off, when he visited me i told him to Reset the battery, nope he forgot and broke it in anger!, what a silly bugger! ah well.
