A Selling and Wanted Section
« on: February 13, 2016, 01:51:29 PM »
Well here I am again with another idea to improve the Forum, some of you don't like change and to be honest neither do I but I think this will make buying and selling your items easier and also, give us collectors first looks on what's up for grabs!

No eBay fees, free to advertise what you're selling

I propose a selling and wanted section, so in that section would be 4 sub-sections.
  • Vacuum Related Wanted
  • Vacuum Related Selling
  • General Wanted
  • General Selling

So obviously there are sections for buying and selling anything to do with Vacuum Cleaners, you could even have a parts section and a complete machine section if you wanted to...

And then, the other two sections are basically anything else you want to sell or advertise you are after, however it could just be kept to Vacuum and appliance selling/buying only

Also, there would be a disclaimer to say that the Forum isn't responsible if anybody is scammed etc... And to remind people to trade sensibly and use Cash on Collection or PayPal and not bank wire etc... But I'd like think that's all common sense anyway  :grinn:

I really think it would be a good addition to the Forum, I'd be checking in it all the time for parts and Rare items that pop up lol.

You have such cool ideas! ;D
DC14s are tanks, just need a slightly longer motor life. Do plastic parts often break on DC14s? Nope. DC41- Sexy looking futuristic and powerful machine. Just needs a better designed cleaner head wheel and cyclone clip along with a dense metal rod in the chassis.

Sounds alright actually. As long as we keep people rolling in simply to flog stuff, drop links, etc., out.

Anyone else like the idea?

Don't let them sell until they have a certain number of posts that have been checked.

Yes, tried this on another forum ages ago, I will still have the terms, etc there.

Other thing that springs to mind is if people put email addresses on the topic, spam bots will harvest them.

We can use the PM system, if people are silly enough to put there email address in a public forum, well  ::)

Exactly that!

Also, on the forum I used to mod we had a 20 post limit before you could post anything in the Selling/Wanted section.
And on another one we even had it so that once you hit the 20 posts, you could post in a selling thread but the first post alerted a mod, that then checked the person's other posts to make sure they didn't spam to get the 20 posts. Then the mod/admin ticked a box that said the person is a trusted person etc...

That functionality sounds like vBulletin software.

I saw nothing similar with SMF, but it would be easy enough to do manually here.

Are there any advances on this? I have a growing list of things vacuum related and non Vacuum related to sell, and also a few things I'm after...

Hey dude,

I didn't mean to appear pushy or anything, I was just seeing if there were plans for it before I put my stuff up on other sites lol.

And a new shop! Nice one I bet that's exciting ;) shame it's so far away from me though, well your old one was too lol.

I see the new section, nice one I can't wait to see what turns up in there!

I'll be posting in it when I get home later ;)
