Oh lovely! I am dying for either a DC17 animal or an Asthma & Allergy one along with a DC28

And also a DC14 low reach in red

When you get it would you do a thread? That would be epic

I hear the DC17 brush is a little too aggressive even in some US carpets. Is there any way to convert a 110V motor to be used with 240V? I would love to import a mint DC17 and use it without an annoying transformer
DC14s are tanks, just need a slightly longer motor life. Do plastic parts often break on DC14s? Nope. DC41- Sexy looking futuristic and powerful machine. Just needs a better designed cleaner head wheel and cyclone clip along with a dense metal rod in the chassis.

Yes, I might get a DC28 next.

I can (in fact - this is it), but looking at it, it doesn't want so much work. The three tools and the bag of Zorb powder will just go into stock to offset the cost.

You can use small plug in ones like this.

I just ordered one as a testing item, even though the machine isnt for using; its just for looking at as a curiosity. But it has to work.

Oh no, my mate imported a DC28  from eBay brand new and came with a transformer, it wasn't suitable and he only got 10 secs use out of it, thinking the brand new machine blew up, but the transformer actually couldn't handle it so a more industrial one is needed ;)

He got a much bigger one, more expensive though but it works perfect

He probably got an incorrect ampere rated transformer. 110v is nothing. It takes no juice at all, its like 240 running @ less than half. Think about it. Amps count.

So our DC17 arrived, but eBay Global Shipping had split the shipment (in Kentucky - which doesn't inspire confidence) and two packages arrived sans wand.  ::)

Luckily, the wand seems to be the same as a DC18 looking at web photos, so we tried one and it fit. Part numbers differ, but to me they look the same. If any of our members over the pond know the difference (if any) between a DC17 911647-01 wand and a DC18 911695-01 wand, do speak up........

Anyway, here it is (with a DC18 wand on) pre refurb, as is.

A caution to those using the eBay Global Shipping Programme from the US to the UK. Some of our DC17 arrived today with Hermes. Hermes along with Yodel are like the *worst* couriers by far we have in the UK. Had I known when I paid "Pitney Bowes" for the eBay service that they would have used Hermes I wouldn't have done it. I'd have sprang the extra doh and paid UPS or Fedex to collect it from Texas. But hey, *most* of it is here in one piece. The wand may follow, who knows?

Its nice to have a Dyson we have never seen before.  :-*

Strip down and refurb photos will follow...........

Yay! Looks great
I wish they were sold in the UK, would happily use one as a daily vac, looks like an aggressive DC14 with a motorised brush

I actually never thought about the dc18 wand being the same. I think they are, and if it fits I say use it!

Have you checked out the cyclone closely yet? These had a bad habbit of shifting cyclone seals and completely blocking the entire cyclone system. An updated cylone assembly with improved seal was introduced late in their lifespan and is avaliable as a spare part. Your seal looks like the earlier type, but it appears to be in the correct position. You might have been spared!

When I got my one taking the cyclone apart and cleaning it was a terrible experience. The previous owner thought he was doing me a favor by half heartedly rinsing out the cyclone. This made all the compacted crud 3x more difficult to remove, and the machine still has a slight smell to this day.

Can't wait to see it looking new!

Yes, the hose fits fine, it clicks into the machine nice and snug, any differences there are must be very minor. We have a few new DC18 wands we have had for ages, so I reckon I'll donate one to this if the original doesn't appear.

Now you say that I recall reading about it on Wiki.

Quote from: Wikipedia
The level 3 root cyclone system on the DC17 was quietly redesigned due to a gasket defect that allowed dirt to enter the cylones backward, clogging them and causing the cleaner to lose suction; almost all of the original DC17s had this problem. The redesigned cyclone pack, fitted to later DC17s, resolved this issue. Older DC17s were not recalled, but Dyson gave out and sold many of the redesigned cyclone packs.

Isn't that the same issue that affects dc24s and 25s too when the gasket wears out?

It's the FDC seal (big one for the bin flap) which somehow  gets loose and dirt gets sucked up into the cyclones from there

Also Dyson DC16, how can you tell the difference between the older and newer cyclone designs? ;D

Aaaah.  Thay would explain it then!

No idea re the cyclone,  I have no idea if I have an early or late one tbh (only got one led,  green for charges,  red a split second before the battery dies)
