Hoover Sensotronic S3128 System 2 - A Rambling Refurb!
« on: August 11, 2017, 11:56:41 PM »
I used to own this, and now I don't, having swapped it recently for something amazing! But I have a stripdown and almost refurb thread of stuff for it, so why not write it up!

I owned it for a fair few years actually, I bought it on ebay cheaply from the notorious vacuum destroyer joshyvacboy.

It worked OK. Here is Eva, probably not 2 at the time playing with it in 2013

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yQ5QllbqNQ

Anyway, here it is cleaning our old flat the day we moved out!

It was the last vacuum to clean there, and the first to clean our current house! (as it was the only vac I had to hand the day we moved in!)

I used it as my January Vac!

Which involved cleaning up after taking the christmas tree down

And it was generally pretty great. So let's get on with the usual style refurbishment, although it did not go entirely to plan!

Let's begin *cracks open a can*

April 1983!

The wands are not original sadly, but do their job well bar not being brown

The floor tool is apparently very rare, being a long neck brown one!

Underneath was worn but not too bad

ila_rendered

(I cleaned this out a few years ago so it's not too bad now) but baseplate off

ila_rendered

And their springs

ila_rendered

The brush plate lifts out

ila_rendered

And the brushes pop out for a thorough clean

ila_rendered

The pedal assembly pops out

ila_rendered

And then the neck

ila_rendered

Onto the hose now, and again not original, although the machine originally came to me with a strech hose, also wrong but horrible to use, so I picked this up from another collector years ago.

ila_rendered

The Contour handle unscrews

The suction control slider sits in this half

ila_rendered

And pulls out

ila_rendered

The Pip lock lever lifts out of the front part

ila_rendered

I could not get the ends off the hose at all, they would not budge, which made cleaning it alot harder than it should have been, but more on that later!

ila_rendered

Because it's time for the main show!

ila_rendered

Bag door off

ila_rendered

Tool tray out. Sadly 2 of the tools are non original

ila_rendered

The dusting brush has seen some use

ila_rendered

Crevice tool isnt too bad

However the upholstery brush is lovely and original

ila_rendered

Tool tray is lovely and unbroken too

ila_rendered

Under the tool tray sits the bag. The chamber is sealed by the tool tray, so you can take the lid off to get at tools with the machine running.

ila_rendered

Good old single walled paper bags...

ila_rendered

The pre motor filter was dirty, but not too bad

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

That removed, it's time to get electrical!

ila_rendered

This cover is broken sadly, it was when I got it. All the original sound deadening had long gone too

ila_rendered

The lid is wired up to the motor with 2 plugs

and one here

ila_rendered

That separates the lid

ila_rendered

The brown trim is removed with screws and clips (some broken)

ila_rendered

The spring sits under the power button end

A previous repair (not by me, but it makes it much more tricky to try when someone else has been there before...

ila_rendered

The spring sits here like so

ila_rendered

The big rocker switch just lifts out

ila_rendered

Revealing the switch arrangements. The E lever is depressed automatically with the machine switched on (it pushes the switch). The white switch controls the oepration though, so each button just flicks the switch one way. The main power switch is the black one to the side

Wires to the power switch

ila_rendered

Switch removed

The mode adjustment switch looks like this underneath

ila_rendered

Unplugged

ila_rendered

And removed

ila_rendered

The LED panel lifts out of the holder

ila_rendered

The coloured lenses lift off the trim

ila_rendered

How far have speed adjustment potentiometers come!

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

The lights lift out of the housing

ila_rendered

And the adjuster module unclips too

The adjuster wheel pulls off the electronics

ila_rendered

Branding

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

More on these hateful things later!

ila_rendered

The selector arms come apart

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Onwards!

ila_rendered

The Pre motor filter cover unscrews

This part here forms part of the blockage notification! It's a magnet within an arm, that gets pulled up (or down, I can't remember...) when the suction is blocked.

ila_rendered

Now, we need to turn everything on it's head

And remove all the screws

ila_rendered

2 hide behind the rear wheels

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Then the outer shell lifts off

ila_rendered

The mahoosive side bumpers lift off

ila_rendered

Which are a bit grubby

ila_rendered

Turns out the bumpers are in 2 parts too, so apart they come!
