Dyson Motor
« on: May 02, 2011, 12:28:53 PM »
I replaced the brushes in a YDK 04/07 motor but there is an awful lot of arcing when I switch it back on.

On doing some research people suggest cleaning the armature with a bit of emery cloth.

There is only a limited amount of space to stick your finger in whilst turning the armature so was wondering if there is any better way to do it?

I can't see an obvious way to dismantle the motor to do it?

Any help greatly received  :tiphat:

In that situation, we give it up as a bad job and replace the motor. Even if you clean it up a bit, it wont last very long.

If you have replaced the brushes and it still sparkes badly then the com is gone and you need a new motor. If there are just a few sparkes then the brushes need seating

If your old brushes were badly worn or if they had worn away completely and the spring has touched the com the motor is burnt out

By the way you NEVER use emery cloth on a armiture , you use something called a com stick and it is used to clean the com and seat the new brushes , You put it on to the com while the motor is running. It is dangerouse and you can shock and KILL  :sick0012:yourself so its best left to a profesional
