V7 problems
« on: January 08, 2021, 02:03:47 PM »
Help
Iíve got a v7 animal and a v7 MotŲrhead, bought at the same time.
One of them the MotŲrhead wonít spin at all or even turn by hand.
The other will spin if I turn it by hand, runs a little then stops.
Iíve done some cleaning of the parts following you tube videos, but canít find a tutorial which goes into this much depth on the v7
Donít want to scrap them if itís fixable
Cheers

It could maybe be a build up of hair / other debris in or around the bearings in the brush heads. I have known them become so packed up with dust that they cannot spin however that is more common with the V6 than the V7. Can you remove the brush bars from the cleaner heads, hold the brush bar and see if the end cap spins freely? If not then your problem lies in the end bearing there. Give it all a good clean out inside if you have not done already. Let us know how you get on

Hi
Had a good look at it.
I can get the brush bar to rotate by hand now.
No luck under power tho.
The metal drive shaft (has a cross on the end which must engage inside the brush bar) this is quite stiff to turn, even by hand.
Iíve compared this to a v7 which works and that turns a lot freer by hand.
I guess the problem is inside the brush bar drive unit?
Iíve taken the screws out and hand a brief look but stopped short of removing the circlip under the white cover. Are there bearings inside that get clogged or wear?
Thanks for your help

Unfortunately if the problem lies within an unknown component, these cordless Dysons are a bit of a minefield- often those cleaner heads are tricky or impossible to repair as very few individual components are made- the best (and favoured by most) option is to replace the whole head. Iíd just check with your working V7 that that head works on the other one- just so you can rule out a fault with the wand or main unit of this machine in question. Hope that makes sense.
I know a lot of the V6 heads were prone to the wire looms fracturing inside the swivel neck, it was rarely cost effective to repair due to A) the time involved and B) (most importantly) the loom assembly was never available. It would account to the cost of a new head. Iím sure there are V7s with this issue too which could be what you have here. Likewise with you mentioning that the drive shaft is stiff to turn, it could be this or the motor that has malfunctioned.
As I say they are a bit like a can of worms. Itís always best to check the simple stuff first like I mentioned in my original reply but Iím sure most shops including myself donít tend to delve any further into the disassembly of these heads
