DC14 new clutch noise
« on: January 30, 2021, 08:08:12 PM »
I replaced the clutch for the first time in my 15 year old vacuum. Amazing how stretched the original belts were. New clutch is working properly. However, it seems to be working “too well”, if that’s possible. What I mean is that if I vacuum wall to wall carpet, all is fine. When vacuuming area rugs, I get the clutch ratcheting noise, signaling that the brush bar is jammed. Presumably because the rug is lifting enough to stall the brush bar.

Is there a break-in period to be expected for the new belts/clutch?

I wouldn't use a traditional vac 04/07/14/33 etc on a rug or any surface with pile longer than 12mm / 15mm.
Disengage the clutch and do the long pile with just air suction.
Personally in our home we have a rug and no way would i run a vac over it, not even my cordless v6.
I take it outside and shake it.
Clutch belts last for years, but when replaced the beater bar will be driven more efficiently as you have experienced.
The only way to fail is not to try.
