Dyson DC46 Allergy Parquet - Stripdown and Refurb!
« on: October 02, 2022, 07:21:56 pm »
I bought this from Facebook, near Reading for £20 iirc!

ila_rendered

This was never sold in the UK. The guy said they bought it with them when they moved from Switzerland. And yep, Dyson UK have no record f it

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

It's very nice

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Forrin plug

ila_rendered

and ALL the tools!

ila_rendered

Which weren't too bad tbh

Felt strips gone as they always are

ila_rendered

They did an electric hose variant of this shape somewhere in the world, and this is evident by the shape of the hose inlet. Just right for some pins and a socket right there

ila_rendered

Little blockage clearing port

ila_rendered

I put the hose and filter in the wash, and got on with knocking everything apart

ila_rendered

Tools first

ila_rendered

Small tools split

ila_rendered

The hard floor tool now

ila_rendered

It's a horrible tool tbh, and much better if, once you remove the brush strips you throw the middle long one in the bin and don't refit it. Works alot better then!

ila_rendered

Flat out head next

I've never known how to take these apart and never managed it, so I picked all the fluff out and washed it whole

ila_rendered

'Turbo' head now

ila_rendered

There's a screw at the back

ila_rendered

And the parking bracket comes off

ila_rendered

The front hose cover trim part comes off now, and again note the places for wires to run on the electric version of this head

ila_rendered

The wheels would not come off. I guess their press fit with sharp big barbs so I left them alone

ila_rendered

I did pull this out from underneath though

ila_rendered

and moved on

ila_rendered

Brushroll out

I tried to remove the black brushes carefully but snapped one of the white holders

ila_rendered

Front baseplate off

ila_rendered

Front wheels removed

ila_rendered

The rear baseplate is held in with a clip underneath at the rear

ila_rendered

And once unscrewed pops off

ila_rendered

The clear window comes out next

ila_rendered

The turbine cover can be unscrewed now

ila_rendered

And the whole assembly lifts out

ila_rendered

The turbine assembly splits at the middle

At the brushroll end, the belt pops off the top cog, and the whole thing hinges off

ila_rendered

And with the removal of a pin can be separated

ila_rendered

But not much else can be now. The main turbine casing splits

ila_rendered

And the air inlet filter pops off

ila_rendered

Time to move onto the machine itself, which is quite familiar tbh

ila_rendered

Blockage pipe off

ila_rendered

Underneath these 4 screws come out

ila_rendered

Revealing thus U-shape spring arrangement

ila_rendered

The springs come out when it's removed

Next up we remove the ball shells

ila_rendered

Post motor filter out, full of hair

ila_rendered

The screws holding the main housing together come apart now, and with it the hose inlet

ila_rendered

The top shell lifts off, although the flex is still going through it

ila_rendered

The cable exit bit pops out of the top housing

ila_rendered

2012 for this cord reel

ila_rendered

The hose inlet has this trim part on it

ila_rendered

Underneath the top housing is a big black piece

ila_rendered

And some scary looking springs

With the cable rewind brake going behind it too

Out it all comes

ila_rendered

Power and cord reel buttons pop out

ila_rendered

Then the top handle/suction duct can be removed from the top housing

ila_rendered

Onto the lower housing now, and there's a white bush inside the hose pivot mechanism you don't want to lose

ila_rendered

Then I secured the cord reel so it didn't lose all its tension

ila_rendered

And lifted it out

ila_rendered

The exhaust air diffuser and t's holder come out, as well as the parking bracket

ila_rendered

This firewall piece slides out

We can move onto the motor now

ila_rendered

The switch unscrews and comes off with its carrier

ila_rendered

On the cord reel, it turns out the 3 tension springs come out on their own little assembly nice and safely

ila_rendered

Which then allows the cord reel to be removed from the motor housing

ila_rendered

The ball shell axle can be unscrewed

ila_rendered

The wiring unpicked

ila_rendered

And then the motor can be removed

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

The motor has a rear housing on it still though

Which unscrews and has the wires detached

ila_rendered

And eventually we get down to the bare little motor

ila_rendered

And can move onto the cyclone

ila_rendered

Bin off

ila_rendered

Lower flap and rubbers off

ila_rendered

Work around the top edge of the shroud and unclip it from the cyclone assembly

ila_rendered

Somewhere under here are some screws...

ila_rendered

And a thin fragile rubber gasket

ila_rendered

ila_rendered

Which is broken...

ila_rendered

Work around the edge and remove all the small screws, and layer 1 comes out

ila_rendered

Bin flap release button and its spring come out

ila_rendered

Top cover and the broken foam gasket come off

ila_rendered

Moving on up the layers, after some digging I found the next round of screws

ila_rendered

And the top cover comes off the 2nd layer of cyclones

ila_rendered

The top gasket didn't seem as terrible though. Cyclone carry handle removed too

ila_rendered

Everything was stripped down and ready for washing

Very busy screwcard

Whilst all this was going on, I'd had in, and scrapped because they were broken, 2 Dyson DC49's, the digital motor version of this exact machine! I kept one of the flex's

ila_rendered

Fitted it very easily

ila_rendered

And made the machine a bit easier to use. The 2 pin dyson plug was fragile as anything, bent a pin just storing the machine...

ila_rendered

Everything was washed, dried and polished, and ready to go back together!

ila_rendered

There are ALOT of screws!

ila_rendered

First up, replace the rubber seals to the lower bin flap

ila_rendered

Then fit the flap to the bin

ila_rendered

The top layer of gasket and cyclone tops was assembled

ila_rendered

Little handle refitted

ila_rendered

Then the inner cone/filter housing can be dropped in

ila_rendered

The 2nd layer of gasket and cyclone top was looking quite bad however, and I could not find any gaskets for these cyclones easily at the time...

ila_rendered

So some clear silicone later and I got it air tight

ila_rendered

Pop the bin open button and spring back in

ila_rendered

Then bring the 2 parts together

ila_rendered

Once screwed up, the tiny edge gasket was complete if broken, and did go back on very nicely

ila_rendered

The outer cover can go on now

ila_rendered

Then the shroud

Then drop the pre motor filter in

ila_rendered

Moving on, build the motor outer cover back up

ila_rendered

And fit it all back into its housing

ila_rendered

Fit the motor cover/cord reel contacts

ila_rendered

Screw on the switch and tuck all the wires in

ila_rendered

Drop the firewall part into the lower housing

ila_rendered

Fit the cord reel, springs and retainer

ila_rendered

Up top, clip the top handle/suction duct in, and fit the springs to the pivots

ila_rendered

Then fit the switches, springs and black retaining plate to hold everything together

Place the motor unit into the lower housing, and refit the hose connector

ila_rendered

Fit the main housing back together

ila_rendered

The post motor filter got a good airline out and came up alright

ila_rendered

Clipped back in

ila_rendered

And the ball shells can be refitted

ila_rendered

Underneath, fit the hose pivot spring

ila_rendered

And cover it up with the plate

ila_rendered

Blockage plate refitted

ila_rendered

Getting there!

Turbo head now. Clip the filter onto the turbine housing

ila_rendered

Then clip the 2 turbine parts together being sure to seat the rubber gasket correctly

ila_rendered

I put some new grease on everything

ila_rendered

And re-assembled the spinny bits

ila_rendered

And fitted them to the chassis

ila_rendered

Clear and not clear covers fitted

ila_rendered

Baseplates on

ila_rendered

Brushroll assembled

ila_rendered

And fitted
