December 2022 Delivery Disruptions and Delays
« on: December 08, 2022, 05:36:32 pm »
Throughout December, delivery times are likely to be slower. We normally use DPD or Royal Mail Tracked services to send all our orders.

However, due to the frequent industrial action by Royal Mail workers which has been planned by the Communication Workers Union to cause maximum disruption and delay between Black Friday and Christmas, some Royal Mail deliveries that are stuck in the system are running between four and ten days late. Sometimes, tracking is showing no journey scans causing people to believe items are being sent out late by us. This isn't the case. All items are sent out promptly, they are not being scanned (or being scanned late) if they are caught in strike backlogs. Strike days to come are 9, 11, 14 and 15 December.

We tried to circumvent this by moving more deliveries to DPD during this time. However, as thousands of other businesses are doing the same, the increased volumes mean DPD is now beyond capacity and is also running behind. There is a notice on their website >>here<< showing which postcodes are affected.

This has caused us to use other carriers including UPS, DHL, and even (unfortunately) Evri (Hermes) for lower-value orders. We are using what we believe to be the most expedient carrier based on order value, package size, and the delivery location at the time of sending. This is changing on a daily basis based on the delivery times we are seeing. All carriers are now suffering delays caused by the unpredictable additional volumes they are dealing with caused by the Royal Mail strikes.

The situation isn't likely to return to normal until the New Year. We understand the frustration that delays to your deliveries cause, but these are currently beyond our control. We are continuing to ship all orders received before 3pm the same day. We kindly ask for your patience and be assured that irrespective of what the tracking may indicate, unless you have heard something to the contrary from us, your order did go out on time and it will arrive in due course.
