Doesn't pull up carpet fibers like it used to
« on: March 08, 2013, 03:02:44 AM »
Hello Dyson wizards.  D07 Animal (purple and silver if you care)

I have taken it apart gone through the hoses and checked the belt.  Suction seems very good, beater bar spins.  Turned it over and placed my foot lightly on the sole plate to see if pressure stopped the spin, it kept right on no problem.

I looked at some new machines and the beater brushes on those seem to be just like mine, so I don't think it has worn down.

However vacuuming used to pull up the carpet nicely, now I can't even tell I've vacuumed.  Anyone have some ideas or tests to run?

Welcome to the forum.  :tiphat:

Have you checked the filters (and properly washed the washable) in recent times?

Thank you for the welcome!  I appreciate it.

The only one I haven't gotten to is the HEPA.  I have applied a goodly amount of pressure to the tabs to open the HEPA compartment and it hasn't budged.  Worried about breaking the plastic.

Reduced performance is often the cyclone part blocked. The HEPA is easy to release if you know how. I think a workshop manual might give you a better overview. It shows you the full airflow diagram.

Thanks so much.  Was hoping to get a hepa filter replacement, but my local folks are having no luck.  The Dyson company seems rather unhelpful.  So I am turning to you again.  Sent manchestervacs a skype note as I don't see the hepa available on the international shop page.

Sure hope this does the trick!

Hi, sorry to hijack dkgoodwin's thread, but I have the very same problem.  All attachments can pick up fine, but vacuuming the floor it looks like it hasn't been done.  Hope someone can help.

Is your clutch switched on?

If you mean is the control in the forward position (towards me when cleaning) it is in the off position.

The clutch is this.

Turn it one click clockwise.

Does it pick up now?

Thanks for the diagram, it helps.  That is what I thought you meant by clutch, what you suggested I have tried that previously but still not picking up.

Anyone else have any ideas as to why the dyson is not picking up, but the tools are fine.

The picture that MVacs posted, if you look at where it says 'co.uk' along the front width of the machine if I press my foot down on it while vacuuming so that it touches the floor it seems to pick up a lot better, when it lifts up it doesn't.

Bottom hose is twisted out of position and possibly thus preventing the cleaner head from contacting the floor? If it's too high the suction will be poor.
Or the bottom hose could be detached, blocked or perforated-same result (poor suction)?

Thanks for the suggestion, I have had the vacuum out again and inspected for any damage or out of position hose but there doesn't appear to be anything untoward. I feel I may have to get the dyson engineer out for this one, I am sure it is a very simple remedy that will get this vacuum working again but for the life of me I can't find the answer.

Twist that small hose half a turn, the cleaner head is not contacting the floor properly.
