DC24 Bin not releasing
« on: April 08, 2013, 08:30:49 pm »
Hi All, I'm new to the forum, so I'll start by saying Hello!!!

I'm having trouble with my dyson dc24. The red bar won't release the bin lid for emptying, I think the problem lies with the small spring housed within the upper cyclone unit. The spring allows the bar to extend downwards but it doesnt seem to align itself with the red bar attached to the bin, therefore not releasing the catch, if that makes any sense.

Any idea's???

A bit late, but I had the same problem and it's easy to solve:

Remove the top half of the cyclone from the bottom part (5 x 10tx screws). This is a good opportunity to check the cyclone gasket and replace if necessary.

If the now floating red rod (with offset elbow) is still attached to the spring remove the two.

Drop the spring with two tabs into the bottom assembly. Grab the top of the spring with finger and thumb and twist it clockwise about 3/4 of a turn and hold it (a bit tricky at first), then whilst holding it, drop the 3mm protrusion of the jagged red rod into the spring so the horizontal portion of the rod effectively grabs the upper spring tab and stops the spring from moving back to its equilibrium state. Carefully guide the top part of the cyclone assembly with filter back onto the bottom half.

Hey Presto!

This basically forces the red rod over to the external side of the assembly where it's needed otherwise it would float freely and possibly catch the inner part.

That OP slipped under our radar back then.

Great update, Ian, and welcome to the site.  :tiphat:

I've done many DC24's and that middle rod and it's spring still gets me every time and takes a good 20 minute to get it right. Hateful thing!

Just joined the forum. I've been struggling on and off for a week or so trying to get the spring and rod to work properly but had no joy but thanks to ianlinux have got it working properly. Thanks again.
