Which Dyson Vacuums to Save?

As regulars here will know, a corner of our shop has become a Dyson museum. I wanted to save a few of the rarer Dyson (and designed by and/or licensed by) machines that people could look at while having a coffee waiting for a repair or whatever. I thought maybe half a dozen of the rarest machines we have come by will be interesting enough.

Here are a few. I took this today.



But now it is growing legs. We have the Kleeneze Rotork Cycon, and now a G-Force, and a Fantom Fury. Alongside are a De Stijl DC01, an Arctic Solo DC01 and the DC03 clear. Now we have run out of cabinets already. Nearby on the floor is a DC03 Independent and a Chippenham built DC01/DA001 (I forget which - we have both). Up top is a DC02 Recyclone and De Stijl and a new DC05. Round the back is a Marie Curie DC04, a Clic, a prototype DC41 and some others.

The question is does one save one of everything? Or one of each type? Or only interesting variants? If one of everything I need to encounter a clean DC01 Absolute and a white DC02. And a yellow one, and a clear one. And a DC03 or two, a few more DC05's and maybe a DC11.

When did you last see a decent DC11? Or a turquoise one ever? I bet we haven't serviced one in over a year. Filters and parts sell once in a blue moon. White 24/25 machines are thin on the ground, as are DC18's and a few others. The time to save them is while they are still about. Fast forward a few years and suddenly they have all gone when you want one. 

Obviously, a collection has to have value to someone else later on. When you either move on, retire or drop off the twig.

Does one build up a fanatical collection of one of everything ever made? Or does one simply cherry pick the rarer and more interesting stuff making sure to have at least one of every type?

 They all look amazing  you have done a great job   ,have to say I do have a sweet spot for old ones they  just looks so fascinating, btw  any chance you got a photo of that DC 41 prototype

Originally my ethos was to collect one of every Dyson Model as high as I wanted to go. I'm not that keen on the newer models so my collection thins out after dc27 but I do have a dc41.

I would say get what you can when you can, especially if you can afford the space to store and display. Even tuck it away for a rainy day you know you've got one.

I have branched out now, at one time I only ever had Dysons, now I have Electrolux, Miele, Sebo, Panasonic, vax, Bosch, Hoover etc I tend to go for vacuums with a design difference that makes them stand out to the rest.
Panasonic icon has the huge brush roll
Hoover vortex was the Dyson competition
Samsung SU8860 with the angular cleaning head and pop up tool.
So on and so on.

I love the limited edition dysons they are more special than silver and yellow. If you see something that looks in good condition and complete its probably not going to happen again for a long time, unless you have the spares to make it complete, so go for it. I am now at the absolute limit for storage it's more one in one out these days, but I do find you have to strike while the iron is hot.

I don't know what ones you should keep, but I do like a collection, what ever it's a collection of... So well done, nicely done too

What I would *really* like is a DC06, but I am not sue how many (if any) actually made it out of Malmesbury.

I have a white dc02 awaiting restoration, just needs front wheels and wand with white button. I sold a very good dc11 last year, never seen a turquoise one. I would say collect 1 of each of the earlier models and what you can't get stick photos up. No point worrying about anything past a 27 yet unless you can get it for penny's and stick it in a to do pile.

Years ago I saw an all silver DC11 for sale on ebay but didnt realise how rare it was so i didnt bid

You get alot of rare vacs mvacs, and know the value of a complete range collection, but space will be a problem. Don't you have more storage space now? Could you store the rare ones boxed up somewhere/rotate the displays occasionally?

When I get my own house, my aim is to get ALL Dysons in ALL colours except the ugly ones I dont like.

I last saw a DC11 this morning when I was at the carboot sale, it was the yellow model with it's turbine head for £30 :) Other than that I hardly ever seen them

I think you should get American ones too, they would be nice (like the purple body DC14 or the red and purple DC14, to match the low reach DC07 )

A Dc07 is the world's first multi cyclone vacuum in vacuum history so would look good in a museum, and a DC15 too being the first ball and the ball is a big hit now for Dyson, Maybe even a DC16 and DC35?First cordless and first stick vac :)

Don't you have more storage space now?

Space is not as much as you might imagine. I think you fill whatever space you have whatever size you are. The MD of Qtex is saying he has no space and needs to build an extension.
