DC40 Replacing the change over hose
« on: July 07, 2019, 09:24:59 am »
Hi guys,

Can anyone help with how much of a stripdown is needed to replace the change over hose on a DC40?

Mine had an unfortunate accident with a popsickle stick, I got it to the repair shop but spare parts here in Denmark don't exist, they just do not sell the uprights, I had to import mine. (Even Dyson.dk said they could't [read wouldn't] get the part in as the model is not sold in Denmark.

The hose kept collapsing, so the shop just built up the hose, which instantly blocked and then the repair failed.

I found this great site on the net, and I have ordered a new hose, but could I change it? Or should I just go back to the shop with the new part?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Yes it is quite easy to replace, just go slowly.
Only a correct torx bit driver is required, first time i did one i was a little worried - but it can be done without stripping the main machine.
I only took a few pics when i did mine. It took me about an hour the first time but could be reduced to 15 min after realising the procedure.
just take it slowly, and photograph it at each stage of disassembly.
A squirt of silcone rubber lubricant wont go amiss either on the moving parts in that are upon re assembly.

Thank you Ryevac,

I will probably give it a go, I'm pretty sure we have a torx bit lying around somewhere, my other half has just about every bit going! ;)

You will be fine with it, the torx screws are on both sides if i remember right, make a mental note of the spring location.

I thought i couldnt get access to one of the screw heads at the time, so had to remove something else ? but it was quite easy when i realised...
good luck and let us know how you get on with it.
