Hi!

Way before Sebo decided to muscle in on the domestic market by painting their commercial cleaners prettier colours, before bagless, before the rise of the cheap rubbish, in the 1980's, if you wanted quality, and I mean proper quality, you went German, with either a Miele or an AEG. Yes, AEG, before they had their head chopped off by Electrolux were the mega luxury, bulletproof vacs one might have had in the 1980's for their 5 bed detached house with 3 cars on the drive...

And I picked one up for a fiver from the car boot sale!

Yes this dates how behind I am with my threads, that's my blue Laguna, the car I had 4 cars ago...

and it was alright really

With the only repair being some tape to the handle end

With good intentions I took the hose apart

and washed it. Then I did nothing with the cleaner... Until nearly 2 YEARS LATER! when at the SAME carboot, I found another one for a fiver!

It had all of its small tools

and seemed just overall in better condition

There wasn't anything else at the car boot I don't recall but that's fine, I was happy enough so scampered home as fast as I illegally could and got to work!

It has a different style/era of floor tool

And rusty wands

So out comes the first one from the shed

The hose end gets re-split up

And it's onto the wand

With the button removed, you can pop up the bent in metal tab and it all slides easily apart

Floortool next!

And we have an interesting repair to hold the wheels on

So we'll have all that apart

Baseplate next which thankfully was very clean

And comes off with some screws

Sadly it wasn't filled with fluff. I like them when they are like that!

Unlike other floor tools, the entire top unclips from the base

The swivel neck comes nicely apart

The retracting brushes and the metal levers that let them do this come off

And pull apart

The pedal bar can be removed now

And it seems thats the floor tool done, as the next picture is of the vacuum cleaner!

Time to pop the hood

and remove the bag which was smelling brilliant after 2 years in the shed whilst full of who knows how many years of dirt....

The bag holders are vertical posts, which spring outwards to stop the bag door closing if a bag is not fitted. We do not refit these...

2 nice sturdy tabs release the bag door

The fixed hose inlet does come out with a good tug, and the running pieces that make it swivel come out

The spring for the bag door latch sits like so

And with a bit of a fiddle the latch and front bumper come off the hood

We can remove the bag holders

and head straight on to the motor housing, which is just a few screws

The cord is still going through the machine so the cord reel comes out first

and the motor wires disconnected

The plug needs to come off next

The cord reel confirmed what I wasnt going to do anyway, flipping HATE opening cord reels, never do unless I have to...

Massive EverReady plug removed

And we can pull the flex through and call the cord reel fully removed

The actual cord reel brake is this piece of plastic with accompanying spring. I had to cabletie the cord reel together so it didn't unwind...

There is ALOT to come off this top panel, starting with the pedals

Then the bar for the cord reel (this just presses that plastic bar up allowing the cable to reel in)

The pivot points of the bag door come out too

This is the bar for the speed control

It sits in this groove here, with the spring providing the bar tension

The entire top trim comes off now, which also lets us remove the cable port cover

This must be fab in euro-land where the small plugs fully fit inside the recess, but alas in the UK they do not. It had probably never been moved before I moved it...

The bag full light lens pops out

As does this small piece of metal which stops the cord rubbing through the plastic housing as it's pulled out

This is the latch for the bag door. I can't actually remember if I did take it off but I wouldn't recommend you do, its a bit pointless...

Time for wires now, and take photo's and get pulling

2 black & black/white cables go here

The bag full light would never shine brightly looking like that!

The glorious PTO socket which has never had anything plugged into it sadly

The wires go this way round

Hidden under the tool compartment, there is a removable cover! Under that cover a totally perished bit of diffuser foam fell out

I found this as I unscrewed the motor housing itself

I bet this thing ran very hot when it got going

Under the sound deadening was no better...

Onto the PCB itself now. This white part is what translates that wavy bar's movement to something the potentiometer can read

The board was quite dirty considering the machine didn't look like it has been very wet

There is a heat sensor we need to unscrew too

Then we can access the big beefy motor!

Which is held down by these massive clamps and rubber dampers. If this was a 2015 vac, these would be shitty brittle plastic and a small blob of hot glue on the end...

There was alot of MDF dust under here

The bag indicator pressure tube can come out

The furniture guard can come off now

And the pre motor filter grille. Not the front grille, the grille that separates the motor housing from the bag housing

I really wish I did not remove these as some broke, but the wheels and tyres came off

The parking slow detaches from the back of the machine with this now visible screw

The front wheel pops off

And splits into a fair few pieces

Onto the motor now, and the fancase seal comes off

ID marks

First off were the Carbon brushes

Then the bolts that hold the motor together, and the top bearing holder can be removed

The coil and mass of connected wires can be moved to one side for later cleaning

The fancase came off next, and all this fell out from just tapping the cover off

It's a dual fancase design these motors so the first fan and its spacers come off

Then a second fan chamber gets tapped off and the 2nd fan removed

Pile of bits ready for washing!

Which got washed. Then I sat down and did it ALL OVER AGAIN on the other cleaner. It must have been quite boring/not bad as I only took a picture of how grim the lint pickers looked...

The fans got a wash too and they needed it...

A few days later, with everything dry I can mask off the decals and get polishing!

Can't get much of a better 50/50 shot than with 2 full identical parts!

The floor tools only differ by one digit too, which is presumably the colour

It's really tricky to photograph in low light

Cleaned up the wands too with autosol and wire wool

By this time, all the parts were dry so down they all came...

and 2x everything got polished and cleaned up

The flipping rug wasn't big enough!

Onto re-assembly then! The comm on both armatures cleaned up a treat! (drop of CIF on a microfibre and rubbed did that!)
